Hi folks,
I found this a cracking little kit bar the bottom wing fit which needs straightening up.

I did do the wing rigging (well the one either side ;D) and the main tail rigging, but it doesn't seem to show in the pictures >:(
Don't know what to tackle next!
I hope you like it as much as I do, tips, advice always welcome!

Very nicely done, Justin! Your paint work and weathering are excellent and the lozenge looks great. I almost don't have the heart to tell you that your radiator is upside down. Never the less, a fantastic looking D.VII.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks Bud,
Crud, throughout the build I could tell something wasn't right! OK we'll call this one "a what if" the factory made a huge cock up! :o
Thanks again for the comments, I did try to prise the radiator off, but alas I have glued it in place too well! Ah well, when I build the next one it can be moved to the back of the display cabinet situated in a way as to hide the glaring error! ::)
Regards

I agree with my Amigo Bud. Very nicely painted and weathered! As for the upside down radiator I know I have made similar mistakes in the past. A lesson learned 8)

Justin, I have a Blue Max Oeffag D.III on which I installed the cabane struts backwards resulting in a larger than normal gap between the top and bottom wings, requiring replacement of the interplane struts. None of this really came to light until after it was painted, assembled and rigged. Too late to fix. It now sits in the back of my display case. Being 1/48 scale, it's a much more glaring error than yours.
Cheers,
Bud

Glad I am not the only one! ;D
Did you put pics up on the forum or did you catch your mistake before?

Oh, yeah, Justin. Proudly displayed for all to see.

Note how the diagonal cabane strut slants upward from front to back instead of upward from back to front. Also, note the extreme forward wing stagger. What a complete CF.

Ah I see! But we learn from our CF's! ::). Cracking build otherwise!

Justin,
Really pleased to see you got this together - you've done a great job on this one. A shame about the radiator but I am sure every modeller has made similar boo boo's (I know I have anyway) but it's all part of the hobby and learning curve ...............
What about a larger scale WW1 aircraft next time?

Very nice D-VII. I was wondering if I would build Udet's or Berthold's D-VII, and seeing yours, I think I will also chose Berthold's machine.

I think it's a grat looking build, Justin. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Dave,
I will be going for a DIII of Jasta 27 for the next build. For some reason I love the purple and green camouflage! I only have 1/72 models in the stash but I am looking at a few 1/48. As for the model will be either a Revell or Pegasus?

For the next DVII I will probably go for one of either Udet's or the same machine as taken over by Goering.
Thanks for all the comments gents appreciated.

A lovely looking model Justin very well built and painted (we won't talk about the radiator ;)) and the decal application is excellent, congratulations on a job well done.

Justin you have made a lovely build and painting.

Hello Justin:
I like Berthold's scheme and you did a great job on it, radiator notwithstanding. Like has been mentioned, it is all part of the learning and experience to apply to the next model we tackle.
Looking forward to the DIII.
Best

Sorry for the delay in this note but I have been away (again!). That is a really good build -= considering the age of that kit you have made a really good job of it, especially the finish and markings. As for the bb so what? I am sure that there are very few of us who have not got one or more of those hiding in the back of display cabinets (or worse, in the roof). I regard them as learning experiences; after all the person who never made a mistake never made anything.

Nicely done. I think your radiator installation actually improves the look of the airplane.

Thanks for the comments gents, I did really enjoy the build. Just finished the Nieuport so will have pics on that one up soon.

Hi Justin,
Very nice build, well done.
But there is one thing I want to ask, what brand, type and number of paint did you use for the black, or is it a very dark blue, hard to tell from the photo?
Cheers,
Danny

Thanks Danny, the paint used was Revell aqua 52 - Blue, a bluey, black wash and then Matt coated to dull down the shine. I only use Revell paints, I find them great for airbrushing with tamiya thinners and for brush painting with some flow improver makes it an awesome brush paint, no brush marks what so ever.
