Title: Sopwith Pup Armament
Post by: rolanddvi on April 23, 2014, 11:49:36 AM
Hello Everyone,

I am getting set to start my first WNW build, a Sopwith Pup. The only AM items that are planned are some HGW seatbelts and a Gaspatch Vickers MG. The Vickers is what I have a question about. There are several different versions available from the Gaspatch site and I'm not sure which one would be correct for the Pup. Is it possible that, like many things from this period, what ever was available at the time is what was used? Any help is appreciated.

TIA,
rolanddvi (Mike)

Hi, Mike.  The Pup used the same Vickers as the Tripe, which I'm now working on.  They both used the Hyland type E loading handle.  Just be careful using the Gaspatch breech.  It's very accurate and deeper than that on the WNW gun.  You have to file down the bottom to get to fit properly, or cut the barrel off and stick it on the WNW breech (my plan of action).  Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,

That's exactly what I was looking for!! How did you determine the type of mg?

Thanks much!

I used cockpit photos from various Pup and Triplane references, including the Datafiles and the WNW instructions, Mike.  The WNW website is probably one of the best references you can find.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks for that Bud. Wanted to know in case I ran into this on other builds.
