I'm a newby in WWI aircraft modelling. Not in aircraft modelling though, since I bought and built my first 1/72 a/c kit almost 40 years ago. Since then, I had focused on WWII aircraft. But a few months ago, I was asked in my modelling club if I wanted to be part of our WWI anniversary project. I thought this was a good occasion to add an Albatros fighter to my showcase, since I just love the streamlined shape of this bird. I then looked for reference documentation and (as I feared), it looks like the Albatros is not going to be the first and last I build from this period...I've already bought a Pfalz D-III and a Fokker D-VII.
I've recently started building the small 1/72 Albatros and constantly seek for help and information each time I come across something that is completely new for me: lozenge camo, wood effects, rigging, laminated props, and so on...So here I am.

Thanks. After 2 weeks of work on the little Albatros or so, I found out that making fake wood, oily metal or printed fabric is more difficult than painting WWII birds, but far more rewarding. My wife will surely be happy too: she's always been complaining about the brown and green plastic bits I put in showcases in the living-room, guess she'll like the colorful Albatros better, as well as the coming followers.
So you're almost a neighbour, Nigel. I know Limoges for having spent time there for professionnal training sessions years ago. I first thought the city was grey and sad, but finally discovered nice places and had fun there.
