Title: Hello from Wisconsin
Post by: JCoatney on March 27, 2014, 07:51:59 AM
Hi all,

My name is Jim Coatney, and although I am a born and raised Texan, my wife and I currently live in southwest Wisconsin (brrrrr...). We re-located here in 2010 to take a corporate-officel job with Lands' End. I have been building models since before my teens, and fondly recall summers with my father where we both built 1/48 aircraft almost non-stop.

I've also been involved in the retail side of modeling; I opened Hill Country Hobby in San Antonio, Texas as a small store specifically catering to modelers. I sold it in 2010 and it's still going strong. I recently started a small on-line business to import and sell accessories for Wingnut Wing models (greatwarmodels.com).

However, my real passion lies in building models, and since the WnW kits were first released, I've been hooked. If you attend the IPMS shows in the Wisconsin/Iowa/Minnesota/Illinois area, you'll likely run into me ogling the WW1 models on display. Thus far I have built a DH.9a, Gotha G.IV, Fokker E.III, Bristol F.2B, FE.2B, and Sopwith Pup. I'm active in the local IMPS club (Mad City Modelers) and occasionally build other subjects ( I'm building Eduard' exceptional 1/48 Spitfire right now) when I need a break from rigging or take on an occasional commission build. But I always seem to come back to the stack of WnW kits waiting in my stash...

Take care.... and happy modeling!

Hello Jim and welcome to the forum, so nice to see you here. I look forward to seeing some of your models posted here soon, Wingnuts are certainly an addiction.

Hello Jim and welcome to this wonderful, friendly forum. While I'm currently a 1/48 builder, I've a number of those fantastic WNW models reading and waiting, perhaps with a view to starting in autumn.

Best wishes
Nigel

Hi Jim, welcome from San Antonio, TX. Sadly, I've never visited Hill Country Hobby.

James, I may be a bit bias, but you really should check out Hill Country Hobby on Bandera. It's all models and supplies. The current owner, Gary, is a great guy who knows more about the model industry than anyone I've ever met.

I will make it a point then to go there. Sounds like a great hobby shop. I've gone to Dibble's all my life and Hill Country Hobby sounds amazing.

Hello Jim...I live in Appleton!

Hopefully, we'll get a chance to meet and swap war stories! Do you go to any of the local IPMS shows?
