Today I began with this kit.
Most of the parts cut from the sprue, sand and make holes.
Martin
-
I'm really looking forward to seeing you build this one Martin, it is a very interesting and unusual aeroplane, hope to see some photos posted soon.
Des.
-
Wow Martin you are a very prolific builder! Good luck with the Floh
cheers
-
Thank you for your comments Des and Bo.
I will build this plane parallele to the Fokker D VI.
Martin
-
The propeller will be make from another one.
The undercarriage axle will be make new.
The parts to be clean needs many hours.
I dont know until yet if some new parts ( MG, engine and other) will make inside.
Here the first photos.

Hello Martin:
It looks like you have a plan of action and will be following that. Not too many parts, looking forward to seeing you tackle this 'beast'.

Mark the most probleme is, that it gives many photos of this Areas.
Martin
-
i havent seen one of these built should be interesting.
-
Sorry for my late answere Albatros1234 and Red Baron.
Thank you for your comments.
Today I came back from the Sightseeing tour in Berlin and Potsdam.
In Berlin we were in the technical German Museum.
Some photos come later.
Martin

I'm looking forward to this build, Martin! This is probably the only 1/48 scale WWI kit I don't have. I've seen it a number of times on ebay, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger. It's just so weird looking. Kinda cartoonish. Your build might just be what it takes for me to take the leap.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Thanks Bud.
I buy mine from Berman. I think he has one more. You can ask him.
Martin
-
And now a little update from this build.
The first new scratch parts insert.

Martin,
Good detailing up work on your model - what a strange looking aeroplane this was - why on earth was the purpose of that design I wonder?
Regards
Dave
-
Thank you Dave.
Red Baron like Roland CII was the next Probleme That the pilot seats very high and not a good sight for landing.
Martin
-
That's coming together nicely, Martin. I agree with Dave- it's a very different-looking aircraft, which makes it more interesting.
Dal.
-
Hi Martin,
Your interior is comming together very well. Nice deatailing and engine looks very nice. Keep on the good work!
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Thank you for your compliments, Dal and Patrick.
Martin
-
This is taking shape very nicely, I like the extra detailing you are doing. I can see what they were aiming for when they designed this aeroplane but they just didn't quite get it right.
Des.
-
Martin. Good progress on you added details. Looking forward to seeing more.
RAGIII
-
Thank you for your words about my work, Des and Rick.
Martin
-
The next little update.
The engine comes from the Halberstadt DII and needs much work.
Also make I the ammuntion box.
The Eduard cockpit is in the fuselage, the instrument panel is to high and so it is a little shorten.
Martin

Great stuff on the cockpit, Martin. How did you like working with it?
LT
-
Thank you LT.
It is the picture about the engine and the fuselage sektions out of the Minidata file.
Photos and sketches about the DII engine.
And other about 1915/16.
Martin
-
Looking very nice Martin. You are doing wonders with this odd Kit and I'm enjoying watching you progress.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thank you Lance.
Martin
-
Very good work on the cockpit Martin. I wonder if the pilots didn't get claustrophobic in it. There are a few good videos on youtube from this one.
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Thank you for your compliment, Patrick.
Martin
-
Something new about the Floh.
I change many kit parts. See the instrument panel is shorten, the ignition box go to the left side. I make from plasticard a seat pad and the steering arm was cut and plastic rod glue on it.
I saw the ruder and engrave a radiator on the left wing on top and bottom. Also I make a new axle for the undercarriage.
The MG and the ammution box is inside the fuselage.
See also the engine from the rigth side, the radiator and one aileron.
I have this saw and sand from the wing.

With the engine being fully enclosed I imagine that the cockpit, and pilot, would get very hot and the fumes would also cause a problem. You are doing a great job on the model so far Martin.
Des.
-
Super work Martin. Strange, but interesting aeroplane. As Des mentioned,
I would think the fumes would make the pilot pretty uncomfortable at times.
I look forward to the next updates.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Martin,
I can you are getting close to sealing up the fuselage - your interior work has really paid off and certainly looks the part.
Regards
Dave
-
Thank you for your comments and compliments, Des, RB, Ernie and Dave.
Dave you are right. I think I must change the Eduard cockpit.
Martin
-
martin, your Flo is coming along quite nicely! Too bad the stuff you have added won't be seen by anyone but God :P
RAGIII
PS: We will of course know all of that stuff is there!
RAGIII

Hello Martin,
Like my dear friend Ernie said, a very nice interior and a good lift of the pilot's seat. Interesting build Martin and well done!

Brilliant work, Martin! The interior and engine look fantastic. It's a shame that the engine is now completely invisible considering all the work you put into it.

Thank you Dave,
but I have photos of the interior.
Martin

Hello Martin,
This is a very good and great progress. Do yo know how many of these were produced?
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Thank you Patrick,
I think about the Floh are two produced.
Martin
-
Thank you Martin, not quite a commercial success I should say.
Kind regards
Patrick
-
I think the speed was to high at that time and the position from the pilot is not good. The next point is that the MG is in a bad Position to rech from the Pilot.
Martin
-
Now the turnbuckles and eyelets are ready.
All eyelets are glue to the model also the first turnbuckles.

Hello Martin,
This is a greater progress then it seems. Well done. Your turnbuckles seem very good. Not easy isn't it?
Do you know the speed of this floh and other performance details?
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Patrick thank you for your kindly words.
The engine was a Mercedes D.I with 100hp with 180 kph Speed. It gives no information about how high it flys.
Martin
-
Thank you Martin!
Kind regards
Patrick

With the bottom wing and tail in place it is looking really good, your eyelets are well done, it is a very interesting aeroplane.
Des.

Well done Martin! I am looking forward to seeing her painted and rigged!
RAGIII

Excellent workmanship, Martin. The turnbuckles and anchors are very
well done. The Floh is coming along very well, my friend.
Cheers,

Thank you Ernie for your honorably words.

Now is the painting and undercarriage on the way.
I use for the light blue-grey RLM 76. It comes near the colour scheme.

Hello Martin. I've watched this build with interest, but in a sense from afar. I can only admire your supreme modelling skills so far in producing something so good from such unpromising material. Bravo!
Best wishes
Nigel

Thank you for your compliment Nigel.
Martin

Looking great Martin!
RAGIII
-
Hello Martin,
It's really becoming an areoplane now. You did a great build of a strange bird!
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Thank you for your positiv comments and Patrick.

My first attemps for new rigging and painting the black border. I use now o,o8mm fishing line and painting it steel colour.
The black border needs some paint correction. To bound the fishing line use many more time than use EZ line.

That looks cracking now Martin, great work. But I must add what an ugly aircraft! ;D
-
Thank you Justin.
Martin
-
Hi Martin,
I read a good tip for doing black outlines on wings and tails such as the early Pfalz E types that might work for this one. Use a wide tip Sharpie permanent black marker and hold the flat tip at a 45 degree angle to the wing, and drag it around the edge. if you are careful and keep it at the proper angle it will make the same width stripe along the entire wing and requires no masking. Only clear coat it with acrylic if you use lacquer the ink will bleed all over the light blue and ruin it! Would be worth practicing on a scrap wing or piece of sheet plastic to see if it works for you.
Dave
-
Looking good Martin. The outline looks a little tricky. I hope the suggestion of using a Sharpie type pen works, or you find your own way to succeed!
RAGIII
-
Thank you for your tips and comments Dave and Rick.
Martin
-
Now is rigging ready.
Next work will be glue the wire to the rudder, the tube for the wing tanks, some paintings for plane and propeller and the decels.

RAGIII

Hello Martin,
Well done, the rigging is excellent. You are almost there!
Kind regrads
Patrick

As odd as what this plane is at least it is starting to look like an aeroplane now, you have done a great job with the rigging and the fitting of the wings, a propeller up front will make all the difference.
Des.
-
Well done on the rigging, Martin. The aeroplane a strange design, but you
are doing a super job of it.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks for your compliments Rick, Patrick, Des and Ernie.
I am working on the last points with some breakings.

Hello Martin:
This really is an odd looking a/c. I wonder if WNW will do one in 1/32nd. You did a good job on it Martin, you had some obstacles to overcome and you did a great job it.

Well done, Martin! Certainly a unique aeroplane, but you did
a great job on a not so easy build.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Very nicely done Martin, you have finished this model off extremely well, not what I would call a pretty aeroplane but one that deserves its place in history.

Nicely done Martin. A very unusual Bird!

I too had missed the final photos! This is a most impressive model indeed. I know that some very unusual shapes and forms were produced at the start of WW1 but this must have been one of the most unusual towards the end. These must have been tricky to fly too.
I find your modelling skills most impressive - many congratulations on a wonderful model and informative thread.

Thank you for your very nice words Terri, Des, Rick and LM.
