Title: Fokker D VI 1:48
Post by: radio on March 09, 2014, 06:20:44 AM
It is an old beginning, so we come fast to actually stand, I will start a conservation/ scatch build.
The most of the parts must be cut and sand.
For building I juse the Windsock datafile No84 and World War1 aeroplanes No.85/86/87.
The upper and lower wings corrected, also the tail.
Then the axle for the wheels.
Now beginning to build the fuselage.

Interesting. I initially thought you were doing it the hard way, but after thinking about it for a while, I concluded this is probably better than starting with the old Eduard D.VI kit

I agree with Rob, Martin.  This is far better than starting with the old D.VI kit and you're doing a brilliant job.

I converted one of these from Revell DR 1 and D VII in 1/72 scale using an article by A. Woolett in Airfix Magazine from the 1970's. It was an interesting build and actually quite straightforward - it was one of the first biplane conversions that I attempted in fact. That was well over 30 years ago and I still have the model which means that it was not such a bad effort. Not as good as your will be though.

Lone modeller it is possible that my model will not so good as everybody think.
But I will do my best, that it will be a good model.

Now I have the next one.
1. On the right side I have glue the airpump for the tank.
2. On the engine I glue the spark plugs. They must be dry now.
3. I paint some parts.
4. Glue the two fuselage together.

Sharp work sir.
Forgive my ignorance, but is the DVI an unmodified DrI fuselage with a shortened  DVII wing?
It looks like a project I might consider.
Title: Re: Fokker D VI 1:48
Post by: ALBATROS1234 on March 13, 2014, 11:52:09 AM
pretty much thats what a d.vi is. ive heard a few say there are minor differences in the fuselage but in 1/48 scale i dont think you could notice. and the wing is a shorter version of a d.vii with the same cord and "N" shaped struts so if you have one of each kit you can do a kitbash as martin is doing and come out fine.

The Lozenge is on the fuslage.
The next will be the black and white colour on it and to build the two MG.

I had some trouble with painting the white and black stripes on it.
The fuselage is repaird and the first winghalf is glue to it.

After the wing is dry I see that it was not in a correct angle. I take it away and sand again.
Now I have corrected the wings and glue to the fuselage in the right angle.
On the upper wing is the under Lozenge ready only the tapes are not on it. Will come later.
The machine guns are ready.

As I wrote in an earlier comment this is a really good piece of modelling. I especially like your jigs under the wings - clearly a man after my own heart when it comes to that sort of thing - simplicity is best and usually very effective. I think that the lozenge finish is very good and I especially like the cockpit detail. Keep posting so we can see the finished model in due course.

The lozenge to set on the wings is very difficult and so it goes very slowly on.

After some Trouble, I glue again the left wing to the fuselage.
The rudder levers are glue to it.
Some more Lozenge are one the top wing.

Very nice progress Martin. Did you use any jig to check the alignment of the struts?

Kind regards
Patrick

I have been away for a few days and have missed your updates. This is one very impressive model and will be a real stunner when it is finished. Great modelling.

The next update:
The undercarriage is glue to the fuselage, next will be paint it.
The top wing is on it. One strut is not glue  and a N - strut must be repaired.

Very fine modeling in 1/48 Martin!  I very much appreciate the challenge of converting and combining two kits to match a prototype.  You have made an excellent go of it.  Fascinating build.  Very well done. :D

Regards,

Bob

Excellent piece of conversion work and in 1/48 scale too. This is modelling of a very high standard indeed and I especially like the background setting. You are indeed a talented modeller. Very many congratulations and keep showing us more in future.

Hello Martin:

Just starting to check out this side of the forum.  I really like the way your DVI turned out.  Very nicely done.  I have the Roden Kit and one of these days I will build it.  Your work is inspiring to take it off the shelf and do it.  I know what a pain lozenge and rib tapes are and you did it and did a great job on it.  Engine is great and the interior is terrific.  Outstanding work all around Martin.
Best

Mark
