Title: Blue Max Pflaz in 1/32 from Encore
Post by: oreodog on February 17, 2014, 12:45:42 AM
Hi All -
I don't know about you, but i just LOVE the movie The Blue Max and have always wanted to build a 1/32 Stachel Pfalz but had no idea how to do the 7-color lozenge. Well, now there is one available! I know it's just a movie version and probably not quite up to the WnW Pfalz, but, well, I ordered it.  :D
here's a link to Squadron's page (but I have seen it on a couple other sites):

oh - and also a Stachel figure and the Countess as well   ;)
anyway, I am pretty happy.

Sounds like a good project, Terry.  It would be great if you post some photos
of the build.  Have fun when you get started.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

I love "The Blue Max" too, but the seven-color lozenge is just too much for me.  I like to keep it to reality and what actually was used during the Great War.  Nevertheless, I am glad that there are others like you, OP, who don't mind venturing into movie territory.

I suspect this may be a big seller for Squadron.

Terry, like you I enjoy both the movies and the prototype, and I look forward to building this kit.  :D.   "The Blue Max" was a formative film from my youth, so I want to memorialize it.  In any event, these are "real" aircraft since the reproductions actually flew during the making of the movie, just like Kessler's black and yellow Dr.I in "The Great Gatsby.".  It's nice that we now have these choices available. :)

Cheers,

Bob

It's a ritual with me; I have three Movies I watch at a minimum every two years and this is one of them. It's a "classic" and, as Bob says stars "real" aircraft. "Forest Gump" and "Dances with Wolves" make it a threesome but don't have quite the same magic.
Looking forward to your Build, Terri, an interesting subject for sure.
Cheers,
Lance

Hello Everyone:

I might just have to get this.   Like Bob, this movie made a lasting impression on me.  I was in high school, and just loved the actual flying sequences.  Of Course, having the youthful and bountiful Ursala Andress in it just added to the visual feast.  I still enjoy the movie and will probably pop for this kit as well.

Best

Mark

Couldn't resist.  I just ordered one with the Squadron Valentine's Weekend discount.  ;D  It will be a ways down the build list though, so I'll be watching for your build in the meantime Terry.  ;)

Cheers,

Bob

I think the figures alone would be worth the asking price. How many chances to get a 1/32 figure of Ursula Andress will there be? I don't do 1/32, but I may buy one of these kits just for the nostalgia.

ive been waiting for this since i heard about it over a year ago. i hear it also has a a resin gypsy moth(or some kinda moth) engine which was a 4 cyl with dummy cylinders to match the movie replica, which was a modified moth to look like a pfalz d.iiia. i will definately buy tbis one.

Can anyone spot the rather major missing component on that model?  :o

I assume you are talking about something other than the Lack of Rigging?

This looks like great fun - I have the 1/72 release of their Blue Max Pfalz and I already have an idea for that one.... but this is great for those who like the larger scales.  I like how they have given the modeler a more accurate representation of the engine used in the movie airplane.  making a full conversion to an accurate Blue Max movie Pfalz would be a bit more of a challenge....

Received mine last week from Squadron. ;D  You've hit the nail on the head Brad: this is just plain fun!  I'll be interested to see the first painted Kati von Klugerman figurine. ;D  Maybe the Countess should be a group build.  ;)

I like the movie version with accurate resin parts for the modified movie engine, and the detailed instructions and parts to do the movie version.  There are also markings for an actual D.III, for the realists among us.  Me, I'm all in for the movie version, which is part of my youth.  :)

Cheers,

Bob
