Thanks Jim for the wonderful photos, the D1 (factory designated J9) was not the prettiest aeroplane around but it certainly has its place in history.

Strange looking beastie, in the days of wood and fabric, but an important
step in aviation. Thanks, Jim!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Not only do you see an interesting finish but it also gives us a good sense of the colour of tyres. I've always studiously avoided black and dark grey; now I can see that l might need to go for an even lighter colour. Thanks Jim.
Best wishes

Thank you, those are Great pictures, but that is the sole surviving D1 single seater.
You Germans really are sticklers for correctness! ;) ...I'll add D1 in the subject header if that resolves your concerns.

Hi Des - It sure is a beast. From up close the thing looked more like an outback dunny than an aeroplane...though I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)

Hi Nigel - Thanks for the kind words...there was a lot of sunlight coming into the gallery when the photos were taken, though I believe the colour of the tyres as seen in the photos is pretty close to what they actually are.
