Title: Hello from an older newbie.
Post by: TobyCoulson on January 05, 2014, 11:22:31 PM
I returned to modelling after a 35 year hiatus and find myself irresistibly drawn towards biplanes especially those from the Great War. I primarily model in 1/72 but I do have a couple of  1/32 WNW kits in my stash. My most recent attempt was an Academy Camel in 1/72 and  I tried rigging for the first time. That was a learning experience but surprisingly therapeutic. Anyway just thought I'd better introduce myself here before asking questions. Btw I notice that most models here are in 1/32 is that a prerequisite or just the preferred  size here?

Welcome Toby. You'll find a few of us older newbies here!

To answer your question, you'll also see a fair proportion of outstanding work in 1/48 and 1/72 scales. Naturally enough the magnificent spate of 1/32 models, most notably from WingnutWings has had a big impact but there's plenty else to enjoy.

If you've already found rigging at your 1/72 scale therapeutic  you've arrived at the right place!

Best wishes
Nigel

Welcome aboard Toby. As Nigel says, there's a fair representation of all the scales here, the spate of great Kits in 1:32 has that Scale in the spotlight presently and a lot of us "oldsters" have migrated there to cater to older eyes, fatter fingers, and the odd age induced twitch or tremor. (speaking only for myself of course!)  ::)
   Enjoy the Forum!
Cheers,
Lance

Hello Toby and welcome to the forum, it is so nice to see you here. The forum caters for all scales of WW1 aircraft models, we have a good selection of 1:72 and 1:48 scale builds along with the popular 1:32 scale models. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like, all the members are very friendly and are willing to offer as much help as possible.

Des.

I find rigging to be the most relaxing part of my WW1 aircraft builds  :)

Many thanks for the welcoming comments. I am now going to ask a question that I'm sure's been asked many times before but I won't do it here. :)

Welcome aboard Toby:

Yes, there are many 1/32nd modelers due to the proliferation of kits in that scale and as Lance wrote, fat fingers, failing eyesight, the occassional tremor etc.  All scales are represented and the workmanship is remarkable.  Feel free to ask, it is a friendly bunch more than willing to share experiences and techniques.

Enjoy

Mark

Hi Toby, welcome.  I couldn't agree more about the helpfulness on this board.  I consider myself an amateur and yet there are true craftsmen on here all willing to share advice.

Welcome aboard, Toby.  So glad you found us.  I build 1/48 scale, but we have quite a few members who are 1/72 scale modelers so, please, join in the fun.
Cheers,
Bud
