Had to share these photos taken from the window beside my Model Desk a few minutes ago. These two young bulls wandered into the yard to breakfast on one of my struggling maple trees this morning. Since I already have an ample stock of moose meat in the freezer and they are thankfully protected in our immediate area it's nice to just watch the little guys destroy a tree that took 15 years to grow in this climate ::); I'd give these two a minimum of 700 pounds each as they stand. They are about 12 meters from my back door in these photos and refused to leave until I slapped two pieces of plywood together a bunch to scare them off; yelling, hand clapping, and a barking dog merely amused them and they continued to eat my poor tree!
I'd like to say it's a joy to live on the edge of the wilderness at times like these however minus 30 degrees C. and a brisk wind out there trumps a moment with nature today! ::)

Hi Lance,
Another two beautiful "models" you posted on the forum. The painting is magnificent and your setup remarkable. What a wonderful place to live Lance! Sorry for the tree!
Kind regards
Patrick

Lance- great pictures! We get some deer in our yard from time to time, but never
the big guys you do. What a treat!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hi Lance
Stop looking out the window and get back to that Pfalz cockpit immediately! We need your inspiration.
On a serious note take care in these extremes. Your minus 30 certainly out-trumps our minus 18 of a couple of years ago and the two beasts savaging the maple tree would have no problem with the family of deer that took out a season's cabbage planting in one go here.
Best wishes
Nigel

That for sure is a special view. I have seen moose cows, once south of Yellowstone one just wandered next to me on a parking lot and another somewhere near Jasper, but never these guys. I just have a rabbit that has found a convenient home under our garden shed, that likes to eat fresh flowers in the morning. Those don't take 15 years to grow. I do like the space you're living in. It gets a little bit crowded in the western part of the Netherlands.

Ivo

That's very cool Lance ;)

That is awesome, Lance.

Glad you all enjoyed the interlude. Moose are lovely to watch and normally very docile however can be unpredictable, particularly during their mating season or in caring for the safety of their young. I've seen these two siblings often this winter, they appear to be bedding in a frozen swampy area towards the far end of my acreage. Although I've had young cows in this close I've never had a bull or two this close to the house, really neat! This horribly severe winter hasn't bothered these boys, they are fat, shiny, and no evidence of disease or ticks is apparent.
Cheers,
Lance

Lance,
What a great view!
That's nearly a 60 degree C difference between your temp and the temps we have been experiencing here on the eastern seaboard down under!!
Some parts of South Australia hit 50 degree's a couple of days ago - blech :P
I suppose we miss out on the Moose, but you guys miss out on the Cicada cacophony ;) ;D

I bet where Lance is located it was around -40 without the wind chill for New Year's. A 90 degree temperature swing! What an incredible rock we live on!
Thanks for sharing the moose pics, Lance. Better to see them from your house in the yard, then from your car on the highway!
Take care up there,
Lindsay

Hey Lance great pics. If only you could train them to mow lawns in the summer. We went from the fridgid temps to a projected 25cm of snow today with more thru the week. All there for my commute to YYZ - Im thinkin a 2 hr drive in the morning.....5 more years til I can just sit at the window and watch......

What a wonderful world we live in Steve. Don't envy you the commute in all that snow and best wishes on getting past those "final five". I now get to sit at the window and watch. In the case of this morning all could see was a thermometer that reads minus 36, and there's a breeze out there as well, Thank gawd I don't have to drive to work!
Stay Warm!

Very nice photo as well Mark. I've had deer up on our front step eating the flowers out of our planters there, they too are magnificent creatures to watch. Country living is indeed hard to beat!

Thanks for posting the picture postcard Lance, what a beautiful scene. you had minus 36, we had plus 36. And your window view is also excellent Mark, like Lindsay said, what an incredible rock we live on.

Hello Lance:
No photo's but today, we will hit a high of -17f. I too have deer and on 14 November hit a nice 6 pointer with my car. Totaled the car, killed the deer, but I am alright. I was hoping to retire in September, but; now with car payments again, have to rethink that one. I saw several Moose when I was in Alaska in 91. Quite the beast. I would trade all of this for the cacophany of the Cicada and no snow or cold. I probably wouldn't get much modeling done though. SLAP! Oh! Reality.
Best

Well, there's no snow here :(, how fun would it be to play in it with my young daughter.
I live in the countryside as a choice, this is the view from my desk, it's a BIG pic and huge landscape, can't get bored of it and the peace that it provides me. Below are rice fields.

Magnificent view Zabu, and it looks so very warm! Glad you survived the deer strike unscathed, Mark. That sort if accident can get real ugly real fast!

Hi Mark,
Sorry to read that you had your car total loss! The most important thing however is that you came out unharmed my friend. Keep up the spirit Mark!
Hi Zabu,
Nice view you have from your bench!
Kind regards
