Title: Fokker D.VII - WINGNUT WINGS
Post by: szymon on December 30, 2013, 04:50:14 AM
Hello friends after a longer break, I present some pics of my new project. I added a few elements from each other, and also sets of HGW (seatbelts, photo etched) and GasPatch metal turnbuckles.

Beautiful work, Simon.  You have done a superb job of the cockpit, fuel tank,
copper tubing etc.  Your talents are obvious.  I look forward to your next
updates.

Outstanding modeling Simon!  One of the best D.VII pits I've seen yet. :D. How did you do the brass grommets and cord on the fabric barrier behind the seat?  Looks very convincing.

Bob

After building a D.VII myself almost a year ago I can truly admire the beautiful job you have done with this interior. If you just have a look at the pictures you don´t really realise how small this all is. Astonishing. Can´t wait to see the follow up.

Absolutely brilliant work Simon, the cockpit interior is a work of art and I love the way you have the fuel tank filler cap off, superb craftsmanship. The GasPatch turnbuckles and the HGW seat belt certainly adds to this stunning build.

Wow Simon, this is just beautiful work. I think that the colour you've used for the tubular metal frame is spot-on. Was it your own mix or did you use a proprietary brand?

Best wishes

Wow Szymon! The cockpit is a magnificent example of the "modeler's art"; now you've produced an engine that is well beyond that! This is truly outstanding work, it's simply beautiful and although it's only starting we see a real winner emerging already. My compliments on a great start and first class work, I'll be watching this Thread very carefully.
Cheers,
Lance

as the paint, with general wear and staining is utterly amazing.
Extremely well done.  In a class by itself.

Hello Szymon:  The engine is spectacular.  How did you do the spark plug leads?  Outstanding work.  I won't take mine off the forum, but; makes me rethink doing an exposed engine.  I like the deckles on the intake manifolds, a nice touch that I can incorporate into my exposed engine build.
Thanks for posting your great work, truly an inspiration to all here.  Looking forward to the next update.

Best

Thank you for the nice comments, and now the answers to your questions:
Ammunition feeds are hand made

In the spark plugs leads  I used  etched parts, which I prepared of his time for Roland.

I can't believe the detail you've achieved here, particularly the engine and framing. I agree with Rhinocrat, you've achieved a new level; I believe this is the most realistic detail and weathering I've seen here or elsewhere.

Thanks for the compliments, I have to something spoil, this you stop so praises me  :)
And now another update, before closing the fuselage, I tested interior lozenge decals from AVIATTIC, which I received from Richard in Telford- Richard, thank you once again.
I tested weathering under decals - heavy version and light version. Aviattic decal is firmly transparent, so be careful of weathering. This gives, however, very interesting effects. AVIATTIC decals  imposed perfectly, very well rest against.

I really like that! But I wonder, would the data panel really show through to the inside like that? I thought it was painted over the dope, which would seal it from bleeding through... ? ? ? ? ?

Anyway, looks fantastic, congrats

Hello Simon.

The thread title indicates that the scale must be 1/32, but the photos almost make me believe something else!  Wonderful work and thank you so much for sharing it.

Wonderful work, Simon.  The cockpit is amazing.  I am wondering about the
turkbuckles.  Did you make them yourself?  Thank you for sharing your

It's a stunning master piece. Just wondering with this beautiful weathering of the fuselage insides if you are going to do something with the seat cushion?

Hello Simon:

Data panel notwithstanding, Your interior looks spot on.  The data panel won't be quite that visible once you get it all buttoned up, if anything, it will ad a bit of interest.  Your work is truly amazing and I am enjoying watching you work through this build

I  managed to make wings, I used a lozenge from AVIATTIC is terrific. Beautifully adheres, but you have to pay attention, to her long soak,  in order that  glue is well dissolved.

Very nice, I'm doing this scheme for my GB entry so it's a tough act to follow.

Did you apply the fuselage lozenge and then over paint the blue.

Szymon you rise the bar, specially for me, I'm just beginning this model, but I'm sure that mine not be so good as yours.
By the way I have the same question as gcn, I'm planning to paint lozenge by the Montex masks, and then paint blue on the fuselage.

I like your use of oils on cowl, brings out the detail nicely.  Your shading on the fuselage sides is outstanding, just subtle enough to notice but not overly so.

Thanks friends, I'm glad to you like it. (GMC,Adam) Also at the beginning, I wanted to paint the lozenge on the fuselage, but after studying images  the original and I resigned of the idea. This is a lot of work and the effect would be hardly visible - in my opinion.
(Ernie) - I used paints - Tamiya  (blue) and MisterKit (yellow) and thinner from Gunze Hobby Color. I paint with airbrush Infinity.
