I finally finished my 1:32 scale scratch built Fokker Spinne, I thoroughly enjoyed this build even though reference material was pretty scarce, most of my build was done from looking at period photos. There is an enormous number of turnbuckles on this plane all of which were hand made, all the rigging was done using 0.12mm monofilament and painted with Mr Metal Color Stainless. I hope you enjoy the photos.
A full build log can be found here http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page44.html

Oh my giddy Aunt! .........................
Completely lost for words - nothing I say will cover adequately any kind of description that I could try to give to this build.
Simply ... Bloody Marvellous ............ but! Where do you go from here??
Fantastic.
-
Ditto Des,
Can't see that being topped - incredible build
Guy

Congrats for this beauty Des.
One of the best models there i ever seen and the best scratch model i've had the privilege to watch being build.
This is high end top modeling. You're a Master Sir Modeler.Thank you for the build log.
Cheers
-
I cannot add anything original to the above comments. Gobsmacked......
I wonder why I bother to show my very amateurish efforts by comparison.
-
Call the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum!!! I'm not sure if this is a full size aircraft or a model! ;) Either way, it's a museum quality machine,
This is the pinnacle of modeling Des. Sublimely well done my friend!!! Thank you for sharing and teaching. ;D
Regards,
Bob

It's has become a beautiful model!
There is one thing missing though: the rigging under the wing between the ribs.
You can see it here:
It is between the ribs that have been reinforced with an additional steel tube underneath.
Now just a pilot figure that looks like Anthony ;D and both will be in the air again.

Ivo

Absolutely stunning! You've outdone yourself, mate! This is the highest form of art. Truly magnificent, Des.
Cheers,
Bud

Truly the king of rigging! Beautiful as usual Des. Any other pioneer aircraft in mind?
Sean
-
Des, I love that aeroplane! Wonderful work.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Watching this build unveil was a pure pleasure. And now to see the finale is even better. One of the best pioneer era aircraft models I have ever seen. Many thanks, Des, for this modelling feast!
-
Beautiful model.
To be done rigging certainly hired a spider ;D
Congratulations !
Jacek

Thank you very very much for all the wonderful comments, they have really made my build worthwhile.
Ivo, the photo you posted of the underwing rigging is the first I have seen, all my photos and drawings do not indicate any underwing rigging at all, maybe it was on only one particular model, but thanks for the photo, i will dig a little deeper and see if my model is supposed to have it.

-
Incredible, Des! Thanks for taking us along on this one. You must be a proud papa when you look at that one.
One question though. How do you move it?
Lindsay
-
Thanks Lindsay for your kind comments.
The rigging has made the wing assembly quite strong so I can quite easily pick the model up by the wing tips and move it around. The model itself is only very light, all up it weighs in at 54g or 1.9oz, so lifting it by the wing tips does not impose a great deal of strain on the rigging, or wings.

I can't add any more to what's been said already, but I can echo it...gorgeous work as usual Des - if this is what you can do with one eye I'm on tenterhooks to see what's possible with both!

I have spent about 24 hours trying to think of a way to praise your build. In the end I decided it is so far beyond my level of incompetence that I don't really deserve a remark ??? SO very well done....

Des,
What more can I add to the praise of this latest opus, other than absolutely awesome my old friend. Funny thing with each finished Masterpiece I wonder how you'll ever do one better. But you always do one better.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
quite frankly - unbelieveable!! (almost as unbelievable as anyone crawling into one of these stringbags and taking off!)
cheers
FF
-
Congratulations on this masterpiece - especially with the knowledge back in my mind that you had problems with your eyes during the build.
Stefan
-
It is a beautiful model, built to the highest standard.
-
:o its just stunning, congratulations for building such a beaty to such high standarts! My English fails me when trying to give superlatives for the build. I followed it with great interest and the end result is just... WOW!
Best regards,
Sasho
-
All the above... simply stunning, Des ;)
VB
-
Des,
This is your best scratch built model so far - brilliant work. You must possess the patience of a saint to have undertaken all that rigging ........................!
Regards
Dave
-
Thank you all very much for the wonderful comments, every word is much appreciated.
Dave, the rigging of these old aeroplane models is the most favorite part of the build for me, I absolutely love the challenge of fitting all the rigging and turnbuckles and I get a great sense of satisfaction once the job has been completed.
Des.
-
what else can i say .WOW!!!!
-
Just stunning Des!
I've said it before but this museum standard model would make a great logo for the site because it would classify as an early war aircraft.
Best wishes
Nigel

Hello Des:
Truly outstanding just doesn't express my sense of awe for the workmanship you have displayed here. Absolutely magnificent comes to mind.
