Hello,
Some of you may know me from another site or two. Some may not. In short, I work in 1/72 scale and build from kits and scratch. The twist? I build my planes to be used as game pieces for a table top miniatures game.
My background in modeling:
I started at the age of 10 and have been model building for the past 40 years. My kit subjects varied in the early years and so did the scales being from as large as 1/24th to as small as 1/2400th. Most of my modeling time was spent at the local model railroad club building structures and hand-laying track. (That involves wood ties, rail, and tiny spikes)
I gave up on model railroad modeling due to the expense of the hobby and turned to building WW1 AC to support my other past time. War gaming.
Since then, I have built around 65 planes in the roughly 8 years since I stopped railroad modeling. I have only been on the forums since April of last year if I remember correctly.
Hope to be around much longer.

Hello John and welcome to the forum, so glad to see you here. We have quite a few 1:72 scale builders on the forum so you will fit in very well, too small a scale for me but I am in awe of what the small scale builders can produce, looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Welcome to the forums, John! I admire you fellows who model in the teeny scale.
I can barely see it much less work on it. ;) As you have likely seen, there are many
expert modellers (not me! ;D) in all scales full of helpful information. A friendlier bunch
has not been found.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Welcome to the forum.
Until now I only also built a 1:72 scale model.
Now slowly I'm starting to build larger models in 1:32 scale, but in the store I have many of these small models that I'm going to build.

Welcome to the forum, John. I've heard of war gaming, but don't know anything about it. It'll be interesting to see what you produce. I think there's some new 1:144 WWI models out there now if that's the kind of scale you're talking about.
Enjoy your time here,
Lindsay

Thank you for the warm welcome. For those of you who do not know me or my work, here is a sample of my scratch built F.E.2b:

This build was done from a 3 view drawing I found and at the time, I did not have all of the resources available to me now so there are some things I did wrong for it to be a true representation of a true Fee. Since the intent was for it to be used as a game piece, it serves well as is.

Hi John.
Glad that you've joined us.
I'm a 1/72 model builder too but my experince with scratch it's none though... besides scratching adds and fixing some problems in models.
Very nice Fee you have there. Congrats.
Cheers

Thank you for your kind remarks.
Zabu, that's how it always starts. Make a part of fix something and next thing you know your building the whole thing from scratch.
:)
