Title: Hannover Cl.IIIa Captured
Post by: Hannover on September 24, 2013, 01:03:04 AM
Whilst searching around for info on Hannover Cl aircraft I came across this photo  http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hec/item/hec2013000101/ (http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hec/item/hec2013000101/)

I'm not sure if its been highlighted before but I think its a great photo. Download any of the larger files and you can zoom in in detail.

A search using the keyword 'airplane' on the Harris and Ewing tiltle page brings up over 200 more images some of which could be WW1 aircraft (http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hec/)
I haven't had time to look them thorough yet.

Hope this is of interest.

I typed 'airplane' in the search function and got a listing for 238 Images:

I scrolled through the 1st 60 and many appear to be WWI or earlier types.

Interesting camo treatment on the lower wing root of the Hannover in the photo.

Interesting camo treatment on the lower wing root of the Hannover in the photo.

You think that the camo on the lower wing root was a repair job? That could be why it is a bit different.

I don't know. I'm not very knowledgeable about Hannover finishes. I think there is some controversy regarding this particular aircraft. If I remember correctly, It was originally thought this machine was downed by Rickenbacker (and labeled as such on the fuselage), when it was actually brought down by ground fire. The Hannover Rickenbacker shot down was a different aircraft. If I have this wrong, I hope someone will provide the correct information.

Anyone know what this is: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/resource/hec.29736/?co=hec

It looks kind of like a smoothed out AEG G.IV
