I realise there are already some fine Tripes around but I would like to show you my effort, too. I decided to build the twin-Vickers version, namely the N534 flown by Dallas, Minifie and Maynard in Naval 1st.
I have almost finished the interior. The last point before closing the fuselage will be attaching of the control lines for trimming the horizontal stabiliser to the piston at the rear fuselage. While checking the photos in WD22 and the WNW instruction booklet I did not notice any serious missing items, so the interior is pretty much out of the box, with the exception of the rigging, of course. Well, I have added the straps on the rudder bar and removed the imitation of rigging at the three rear bays of the fuselage to replace it with the fishing line - Bob's buckles combination.
After the dry fit assembly I have also realised that all the control lines will be quite visible behind the pilot seat. So I decided to run all of them all the way from the cockpit to the final destinations. That maze of lines was a bit cumbersome to control but finally I managed to pass each of them through appropriate holes without making any knots or tangles.

Outstanding work as always Przemol. I always enjoy your projects, this one will be followed closely as the WNW Tripe is very close, if not first, on my next on the workbench list.
Cheers,
Lance

Beautiful work Przemol! Your interior really looks sharp. ;D Looking forward to the rest of this build! :D
Regards,
Bob

As always, Prez, gorgeous cockpit work. The plane you've chosen to model is my favorite of all Tripes. I plan on doing that one in 1/48, using your build as a guide. ;)
Cheers,
Bud
-
Beautiful! The interior rigging is absolutely cracking
-
I love the rigging too. The fabric and fuselage frame looks totally convincing.
Tom

Wonderfull Przemol, my favourite plane and I will certainly follow your posts. The cockpit looks marvellous and so is the rigging. Many congratulations!
Kind regards

Very nice! I'm sure glad I finished mine before you started yours! ;D

What a wonderful job your are doing on the Tripe, PrzemoL!
Your woodwork is great. What did you use for the wood parts-
oil paint or something else? Whatever you used, it's gorgeous.
Well done on the rigging and control lines. I imagine it's tedious
work, but it really adds a lot to the model. I look forward to more
progress photos. Thanks for sharing with us.
Cheers,
Ernie
-
You do have a nice start!
The rigging detail and the "wood" it's fantanstic.
I'm sure that this one will be a great build.
Cheers.
-
Thank you for your kind words, everybody. I am glad you like this build.
Ernie, the wood is painted entirely with acrylics. I start with a beige base (Pactra Mid Stone), then brush some darker brownish pattern (this time I have used Vallejo Beige Brown) and finally apply a couple of thin layers of Pactra Clear Orange until I get a satisfying saturation. A wash using brown water colours sealed with an acrylic clear gloss or semi-gloss lacquer completes the job.
In the meanwhile I have closed the fuselage, nothing really special to show in a photo. The drawing at the bottom of page 7 in the WNW instruction booklet tells the story precisely ;)
Now this build and all my modelling activities will now have to pause, as on Saturday I am going to 3-week holidays. I will return to bore you at the end of July ;)

Beautiful work, Prez ;)

Thank you, gentlemen.
Well, I am back from holidays. After some considerations I have found a satisfactory (for me) way to install the top fuselage parts to limit as much as possible the masking problems. I have cut the part A22 as per instructions, painted the interior wood (not to be seen at all after the part is attached), then airbrushed the red leather paint for the coaming, masked it with Tamiya tape cut to the shape (I attached four stripes of the tape before any painting started, marked the shape with a pen run along the coaming edge, then cut it out) and the part was ready to airbrush the chocolate brown PC10. I have made my mix from Vallejo acrylics - 3 parts of Chocolate Brown and 2 parts of Beige Brown. When dried and secured with a coat of Clear Gloss I finally glued both elements to the fuselage taking care to limit the glue pressed outside the joint as well as possible. It seems there are just one or two tiny spots calling for some delicate sanding (when the glue is completely set), so I am pretty glad with the result. I have also brushed the mid-wings sockets and the top sides of the fuselage at the cabane struts. Now it should be pretty easy to mask the entire cockpit zone together with the struts for the airbrushing of the bulk.

Nice work, and a good solution for getting the finish complete.
-
Very nice and pretty much similar to what I did to minimize masking difficulties. The only major difference is yours looks so much nicer ;)
RAGIII

Nice wooden struts !

It's good to be able to see some of your wonderful cockpit even
with the fuselage buttoned up. Amazing work, PrzemoL.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Coming together beautifully, Prez. Another one of your masterpieces in the making.
Cheers,
Bud

Lovely..
I always find masking can be a challenge on these kits!
Beautiful cockpit...

Prez,
What wait a minute this isn't 1/72 scale! Your latest efforts in 1/32 are every bit as impressive as your works in 1/72 scale my old friend. Awesome project to date.

Many thanks for your kind words, again.
I have spent my recent modelling time on painting, masking and shading. It is not finished yet but I decided to show a small update of this project. The under surfaces are basically done, as can be seen on the tailplane, only some wash will be applied at the end. The shading was done with a brown-clear mix.
The upper surfaces are now ready for shading - taping the ribs and formers and false ribs, etc. took me three busy evenings. I have still not decided if the shading will be done with a black-clear mix or a darker brown shade. I have the spare tailplane ready as an experimental polygon.

The metal and wood panels are masked because I wish to have them in a different shade and glossynees of chocolate brown than the linen surfaces, which are going to be brighter and mattish. Soon I will see if my idea worked out and will surely show it to you.
-
Nice to see yours next project.
Maybe you remember I'm also fan of triplanes :)
Adam.
-
Man, you're makin' me want to build one, Prez! Love your shading technique.
Cheers,
Bud
-
You must have be recharged after your holidays, Prze. Great progress
with the Tripe. With the Chocolate brown it is going to be a stunner!
Looking forward to your next update.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Great progress Prezmol.
I'm sure that the time you've spent masking will be quite worth it.

Looking terrific! I have a Pup in the stash now so I can transfer some of your techniques to that build!

Wonderful work. Love the woodwork and the PC.

Masking, my favorite passion :)
-
Looking lovely. I like the subtle shading on the undersides. It's very easy to overdo that technique..
That's a lot of masking! You ought to get an apprentice to that kinda stuff.

Absolutely superb modelling of a lovely aeroplane.

Nice job on the PC10 and the clear doped linen PrezmoL,
I will be interested to see how the top surfaces look as I am about to do the same with my WNW Snipe.
Here are my lower Snipe wings with castor oil stains:

All looking up to your usual exceptional standard.
The interior of your Triplane is very well done, I am following your build with great interest.
Best wishes,
Dave
-
Thank you everybody! (Nice Snipe wing, Dave!)
Now you may assess if all that masking was worth a penny - the Tripe reached the stage of a monoplane, the rigging and all the control lines at the tailplane and fin is completed, the majority of the dirt is on, too (I will only add some more on the wheels, which are still immaculately clean).

I have not seen this before - not looking in the right place! Only one comment. Absolutely stunning.
-
Beautiful.
-
Well done Przemol.
First class paint job there, all that masking sure payed up and the "caster oil" looks quite on the spot.
Cheers
-
Gorgeous, Prez! Your preshading has produced spectacular results. This is my favorite Tripe scheme, too. Beautifully rigged tail.

me too!
very great job!
-
PrezmoL,
This is looking fantastic, cannot wait to see the finished model!
PS, thanks for the comment on the Snipe wing....all I used was AK Fuel Stains, straight out of the bottle and painted on by brush.
Best wishes from the desert!

Prez,
The shading and subtle panel differences came out beautifully! Your work on this is Gorgeous!

Nice to see next step, it is looking great.
Adam.
-
Prze, this is a joy watching the tripe build. I forgot to ask, is this
out of the box, or have you added after-market parts?
Looking forward to more inspiring photos.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks, gentlemen.
Ernie, I have mentioned, that looking at the photos of the Tripe cockpit, I have not noticed any missing items. In my opinion there is no need of any aftermarket details in this WNW kit. I have only added the rigging and, just today, the electric wires in the engine.
-
Prze,
Beautiful, crisp clean detail and the Clerget is really outstanding. You must maintain a very clean workspace; never a hint of dust or debris on any of your models. My desk, on the other hand, looks like the back end of a junk yard, and it often shows on my subjects! This is a very enjoyable and inspirational Thread.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Nice wood and leather tones
-
Very Nice, typcal of all your work !!
-
That's beautiful work Prze.
It certainly knocks into a cocked hat the Roden S. Triplane I've been experimenting with this year as a sort of skills rehearsal for moving up a scale and into the WnW Pup (or Triplane; or Pup; or Triplane ; or .... oh, such indecision).
Best wishes
Nigel
-
Thank you.
Now the Tripe is finished, I invite you to the gallery.

Beautiful job, Prze! Congratulation on building a stunner!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Superb! congratulations PrzemoL.

Prez,
A beautiful and detailed build inside and out, from start to finish! I Love it and wish I had done half of what you accomplished with my Tripehound!
RAGIII
-
Really top class build, PrzemoL,
What WNW kit are you going to build next?
Very best wishes,
Dave
-
Thank you, everybody.
RAG, yours is a very fine Tripe replica, no need to be so modest about it.
Dave, at the moment the only unbuilt WNW kit in my stash is DH2. However, it will not land on my bench right now. I rather plan to build something in 72nd scale - TopGun FF49 is the choice for now!
-
Congratulations, Prez! She's a beauty!
Cheers,
Bud

Just had a browse Prez, sh is a cracker . . . Good on you mate ;)
A winner if ever I saw one.
