And now for something completely different:

After finishing my LVA Fokker D.VII I finalised the work on a NS 6000. As you can see from my avatar, not only airplanes, but also railway models are a hobby of mine.

The NS 6000 series could be considered to be a ww1 model as its history is affected by ww1.

In 1912 the dutch State Railways ordered a series of steam engines at Beyer and Peacock in Manchester. These were the last in a long series of orders to the Beyer and Peacock works. The NS 6000 (then series SS 1200) were delivered between 1913 and 1915. From the original order of 40 locomotives only 26 reached the Netherlands. The last 14 were confiscated by the British Railway Operating Division and sent to the allied forces in France. The britisch government compensated the already paid engines financially. After the war these 14 steam engines were transferred to the Chemin de Fer du Nord, which used these engines for commuter transport between Paris and Creil and later on around Lille. The last one was used until 1954. In the Netherlands these engines lasted until 1957.

The model is build from a Grandspot/DJH/Modelloco kit. It consists of white metal castings, etched brass, cast brass details and pressed brass details. It is in H0 scale 1:87 or 3,5mm. Almost the entire model is soldered. The livery is the standard NS livery for steam loco's between 1921 and 1940.

Beautiful locomotive, Ivo.  Steam engines have so
much more "soul" than diesels.  Very nicely done.

Simply superb Ivo. Have you thought about building one of the 1/35 Trumpeter locomotive kits on the market? I'd sure like to see what you'd do with a big locomotive like that.

Chris, yes, I have seen those kits, but somewhere I have to draw a line. My stash would become too big. I do consider building steam engines in a larger scale though, but then they must be operational. I am looking at kits in 0 scale (1:43) of the flying scotsman of DJH or a brass model of an SNCF steamengine. Also the K36 Mikado, still in use with the Durango and Silverton has drawn my attention.

I was trying to upload some images, but today Photobucket didn't work as expected today.
