Title: WNW Pfalz
Post by: Gisbod on June 28, 2013, 05:03:08 AM
Hi,

I know I've already postd a pic on the Snipe build, but thought I'd post a few more here..

Lovely kit with no vices - HGW seatbelts and a bit of modest detailing - markings all airbrushed with the help of Montex masks. Bob's Buckles and monofilament to finish off..

Thanks for looking..

Guy

Great work!   You've made a monotone Pfalz scheme very appealing with well-executed weathering and shading. ;D  Well done!

Bob

There is absolutely nothing you could change in your model since it`s simply one of the most accurately done Pfalzs DIII I`ve ever seen!

I can only echo the comments of everyone else, Guy.  Truly stunning.  The weathering is superb.  What did you use for your silbergrau?
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks  :)

The silbergrau is a 70/30 mix of a Vallejo pale grey (can't remember the exact one) to aluminium.

Hello Rick,

Yes the Montex Masks were really very good  :)  I did deliberately choose a very simple scheme as it was the first time I've used them - the crosses are child's play to use - I imagine a set of Roundels would take a little more effort.  I think there is only one Montex set for the Pfalz which gives you two options - but I wasn't keen on either so picked my own one in the end but utilised the masks. One added benefit was that I was able to reuse the top wing masks to very lightly spray the underside of the top wing to replicate the shadow through the linen. You can just see it on the photos if you look hard!

I've just looked on the Montex website and here are a few of the WW1 1/32 options - As good as the Wingnut decals are, you just can't beat that painted on look..

Check them out...

Ps they are specific to manufacturers kits but I can't see why you couldn't use, say, the Roden Triplane set on a Wingnuts kit.. They can't be that different in dimensions surely...

Anyone else have experience of Montex?

Here's a better link to a UK supplier - they've got pictures of the colour schemes..

Guy, what did you do the weathing with...paint or weathering powders?
Whichever it was, you have done wonders with it!  Great job, Guy.

Cheers,

Hello Ernie,

Combination of techniques - washes, pencil mainly all dragged back in direction of the airflow.. I don't have a particular system - it just seems to evolve as I mess around with stuff.. Sorry, probably not very helpful!
