I think I should show my current project. After noticing my cabinet was filling with builds all bearing Xs I decided I better build something with O's on so having seen a few Pup builds and taking inspiration from Des's build I sallied forth.
Basic mods include adding a tiny amount of extra detail in the cockpit area. opening up the ammo can chute top, the fuel and oil filler apertures and picking out details here and there. I added ferrules from brass tube for the cable exit points in the fuselage, adding the lower ones without ref from pics of a Tripe I have. Aerlerons and tail skid have been pinned for strength and I detailed the machine gun with brass tube for a barrel, opened up the cooling jacket etc. Cowl slots were thinned for a better scale appearance. But theres still much to do.

Off to a brilliant start on this one, Keith. Well on your way to having another magnificent O in your collection. My display cases are just the opposite. More along the lines of the ratio on the Western Front.
Cheers,
Bud

Keith,
WOW excellent work my friend. I absolutely love your treatment of the engine and prop. As always a First Class quality project and one I look forward to following.

Keith, your model is looking great - that engine and prop is outstanding :)
-
That is just superb Keith :)
did you buy the kit direct from wingnut wings ? - i'm thinking about treating myself ;)
cheers

Excellent work so far Keith, super build.
Cheers
Pete.

thanks for the feed back guys, much appreciated ;)
Michael, No I bought it from Hannants here in the UK, I know its a bit dearer to do so but a two day wait and no hassles with Parcelforce (UK) and extra long waits make it easier and more desirable. It took two months to get my Rumpler from WNW direct and over 3 months to get my SE5a and LVG both times it was in no way WNW's fault, they were most helpful in assisting me chase down my parcels.

This will be a build to watch. Very nice wheels, prop, cockpit combing . . . and the list just goes on and on.

Looking good Keith, super prop and engine.

Really nice start Keith,
I too have had no end of trouble with Parcel Force when I've ordered from Wingnut Wings, as you say not WNW fault and their customer service is second to none.
I'm looking forward to seeing more updates.
Best Regards

Excellent work so far Keith, as usual your attention to detail is superb, I really like the colour on the propeller.

My deliveries from WNW to the UK have usually been around 2/3 weeks from ordering, with no issues apart from paying Parcelforce's release fee :( I don't mind the VAT, but not the fee.
Keith, I priced up the option of getting a kit from Hannants and paying their mark up vs the WNW price plus fees, converted back into UK£, and it was only about £5 more to have the convenience of buying in the UK.
Have you any more in the stash?
-
i was thinking about ordering direct from wnw but not so sure now. i thought hannants were a bit dear! >:(
oh well i guess i will have to save a few more pennies!!! :'(
thanks for the info

Wonderful start Keith. Love the leather work on the cockpit combing. Combing, is that the correct term? The stitching looks very good.
Anyway, all top drawer.

Very nice looking Pup there! Very handy of the Brits to wrap the PC around the leading edges; such a simple solution for us modellers. What paints?

Ian, I have bought a couple from Hannants and as you say it isn't that much more when you factor in the waiting time as well. I have 2 built, one on the bench and nine more in the stash.

Looks great so far!!!

Thanks Guys.
Mike paints basically Tamya primer, Humbrol matt 28 for the linen interior and the rest are mainly Citadel (Games Workshops) acrylics with the odd Lifecolor thrown in.
Paddy it's *coaming* I believe but I can't spell aerleron to save my life. ;D

Hi Keith:
Engine and Prop are awesome! The rest is nice as well, but my gosh, the prop looks like one of those hand carved jobs.
Best

Hi and thanks all.
Back with a little progress.
Had a few mishaps with cyano not setting quickly while rigging.... different brand to normal. Worse though was putting the kit somewhere UN...safe to set while glueing the lower strut points. Kitchen coffee makes might be flat and just the right size but.... Well after moving appliances to find lost parts I realised maybe not the best of places. So repairing snapped mountings with brass pins and refixing other parts I'm back on track.

So still dirtying in and detailing but the wings are fixed, rigging started and not many parts left to fit.
Despite the niggly *self inflicted* issues I'm loving this build.
Comments always welcome, tips hints and corrections especially.

Keith,
Your weathering is outstanding my old friend.I'm really looking forward to her rigging, going to be excellent.

Looks great. Would the tires have more of the tone of the staining running along the bottom of the wing?

Your weathering is superb, Keith. Glad you were able to fix her back up. All in all, a brilliant Pup.

Oh she's going to get a lot dirtier before I call her done ;)
TY for the feedback guys.

What brand do you normally use? I've found my dime-store cheapo brand takes far too long to set up.
Oh, and the bird is looking beautiful. I think the engine looks great!

Lindsay.
thanks. I usually use loctite or decent quality, but for rigging usually gel type which I apply to the cable then slide the brass tube over.. it's slow drying anyway. This time however I used Citadels (Games workshop) thin in a bottle, the quality is good, just rather random on setting off time. I think it depends how much you dab on.
Keith
-
Cool. I'll look for that, thanks.

She's lookin' really good! Sorry to hear about the mishap you encountered along the way, but you made a good save. I'm beginning to think that building these stringbags is an exercise in 'one step forward and two steps back'.
Cheers,
Chris

I got some time in on her today so have been rigging. I'm about 5/8ths of the way through. If the sun is shining tomorrow and I dont get otherwise pulled away I'll post pics

plenty rough spots to put right, had a few *oh FFS* moments but no further disasters but some touch ups to do. *it's hard redrilling attachment points for rigging that have clogged with glue unseen during repair work*
So a smattering of rigging left.. lower skid cables, ailerons and the dreaded double bracing wires. I'm on fabricating the square tube attached to the vickers breach which I can only assume was for destructable ammo belt disposal. Its on some pups and not other but Ronnie barr shows it on the profile.
anyway less waffle and more pics ???

Tantalisingly close to finishing, Oh whats next? I just got the two Albatros at war editions from Windsock... hmmmm Hannants have the WNW D.V in stock and its almost my birthday... time to smile sweetly at Mrs Beef I guess. :P
