Title: 'Black Prince' - WnW Sopwith Triplane in William Melville Alexander's Markings

William Melville Alexander, a Canadian flying in the Black Flight, 10 Naval Squadron, RNAS, flew Sopwith Triplane 'Black Prince' N5487 in June and July 1917. Alexander scored ten victories while flying a triplane, and eight of those were when flying 'Black Prince'. Alexander survived the war with twenty-three victories and died in 1988.
The following is my impression of how she may have looked.

Hi Chris,

absolutely brilliant work on Alexander's Triplane. Especially the weathering around the wing rips and your fading technique between black and brown brings this plane to life. I am deeply impressed.

Greetings, Dirk

Excellent work Chris! That is an outstanding model and deserves all the accolades it is getting. Of course now in the back of your mind a little voice is saying " Build every aircraft of Black Flight"... :)

Hello Chris:

Wonderful job, I especially like the "Hairspray affect" on the cowling area.  Looks the business alright.  The rest of the model is quite impressive as well.  Leave it to Dave W. to plant that seed, that still small voice that beckons:  "Build 'em all Chris, build 'em all!!!" 8)
Best

Mark

You guys are much too kind with your comments, but I sure do appreciate them! The support and encouragement we all receive from each other in this forum is what makes it such a great place.

Excellent work Chris! That is an outstanding model and deserves all the accolades it is getting. Of course now in the back of your mind a little voice is saying " Build every aircraft of Black Flight"... :)

I still have the decals for 'Black Maria' so I think that I'll be building her at some point in the future Dave.

Congratulations on a superb build, the precise rigging and the weathering effects are standouts.

What's next?

I'd like to get started on William Barker's Snipe but that project is tied to Rowan's decal sheet which hasn't been released yet. In the mean time, I'll have to look over the stash to see what jumps out at me.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,
Just returned from the Holiday; your Tripe is really excellent, the weathering, rigging, and shading are outstanding. Is it Pre or Post Shading or both?
Congratulations on a very beautiful Build, you've really whacked the ball out of the park on this one!
Cheers,
Lance

Just noticed your Tripe here, Chris...what a great job
you have done.  It has inspired me to put one of the
Black flight's Triplanes on my to-do list.  Thanks for
sharing your marvelous kite with us.

Thanks again fellows for following along and leaving your comments.

Lance: It's all post shading. I'm generally too impatient to get the paint on to take time pre-shading!

Ernie: The more Black Flight builds, the better! Mind you, as a Canuck, I could be a bit biased in that regard.

Cheers,

Chris

Hello, Chris -

Been away from the forum a bit recently so just catching up -

Great work, mate - I think the way you have weathered the cowling, rib shading etc, have resulted in a superb looking model.
