Title: Sopwith Camel 1/16
Post by: Rizzo on May 02, 2013, 09:04:53 PM
Based on the Model Airways kit, with lots of scratch built parts. I printed some parts with a 3d printer, and made my own PE sheet, both firsts for me.

I loved working with the wood on the model, hated working with the printed resin. It's not a good kit, but it's made by a nice company (their customer service was fantastic when I had some missing parts), and was at the time the only option for sensible money. It's also given me the confidence to have a go at scratch building another 1/16 model some day. But first I have a stack of WnW kits that have been waiting for 10 months...

Truly superb, Rizzo!  Museum quality, for sure.  Reminds me of the models in the Smithsonian.

WOW! What can I add, Your craftsmanship is superb, the results stunning! No need to worry about that Hasegawa kit, yours will more than stand up to anything achieved using a plastic kit!

Magnificent Rizzo! Your results take this well beyond the class of a styrene kit replica; I agree with RAGIII and Bud regarding its' Museum quality, the Smithsonian, and just plain outstanding work and craftsmanship. Congratulations on a beautiful Build.
Cheers,
Lance

So why do you call it a "not a good kit" ?    ???

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, it does have it's good points too, and I enjoyed making it.

I guess my main issue with it was the quality of the metal parts. Not so much with the quality of the casting, but just the very low level of detail, some of which is fictional or from a different aircraft to the subject. Nothing a bit of scratch building can't fix, so it's the price that's the problem really. It's a very expensive kit, and I had a lot of unused parts when I'd finished:
