Title: Fokker D.VIIF WNW
Post by: IvotB on April 02, 2013, 06:39:22 AM
In another topic I witnessed the release of the Fokker D.VIIF. Now on the WNW website it is for sale too and the usual information is added.

I plan to order this aircraft as there has been a D.VIIF with Lozenge in the Netherlands with the orange insignia, which is a nice variant next to the LVA version in khaki and blue.

Now leafing through the manual I took special interest in the BMW engine supplied. Of course I shouls wait with this question until I have seen the real thing, but I notice some of thesame details as in the D.VII with the Mercedes D.III engine. Especially the cam shaft with the rocker boxes and rocker arms seem similar. Those should perhaps be replaced with the Taurus Models parts too. Does anyone have experience with this BMW engine? I haven't checked, but it might have been supplied with other WNW kits?

regards,
Ivo

whereas the 2 engines share a similar design concept, both being inline 6 etc.etc. the details when one looks closely are not identical. the cyl are shaped diff, the rocker covers are shaped diff. etc etc. from a distance is one thing. but using mercedes detail parts(if they would even fit without heavy modification) would only succeed in making the bmw engine look more like a mercedes. i would wait until taurus or some other company releases am parts, scratch parts yourself or live with the bmw as it is in the kit.

The WNW BMW IIIa is brand new with the Fokker D.VIIF kit.  But they may release it separately as they have done other engines at some point.  Taurus Models has several engines in progress but the BMW is not one of them - yet.  I have seen one kit review that has detailed shots of a real BMW.
