The Micro Group has released their new range of hand made laminated wood propellers, these are an improved version of their already popular range which has been available for over twelve months.
Each propeller is individually hand made using hardwoods which include Cherry, Birch,Walnut, Maple, Ash and Mahogany, coarse grained hardwoods such as Teak and Oak are not used. A great variety of combinations are possible giving the client a one of a kind hand made laminated wood propeller.
The Micro Group are making their propellers in 1:72, 1:48, 1:32 and 1:28 scales. I have received a selection of propellers from The Micro Group and will be posting a full detailed review on the forum and my website over the next few days, below is a sample of the propellers now available.

Hello Des:
They look pretty neat, any prices?

Alrighty Then, look forward to it.

GREAT! :D

Very nice! IIRC, these are about 25.00 US?

Excellent stuff. I wonder how long it takes them to just produce one? On my screen they seem a bit on the bright side.

Des,
These are absolutely beautiful props. I'm impressed with the craftsmanship involved in making propellers and would certainly have a use for them. Now all the Micro Group needs is a few French examples.

Just read the review Des, thank you for posting this. I personally prefer the ones where the lighter wood types are not too different in colour. I guess the lighter colour props can also be darkened with tainted varnish.
The more contrasting laminations can sometimes highlight the only criticism I have of any small scale real wood prop, in that the wood itself may appear overscale - the prop labelled E above for example where the front and behind shots seem to show a raggedy edge to the laminations due to the real wood grain.
That is my only negative comment, otherwise these look excellent, well crafted, and would make a great AM addition to many models. Price is relatively high compared to the model kits, but if you're taking months over a model, spending just as much on paints, rigging material, AM seatbelts etc then you can quite easily be spending more than the prop anyway, so the value is in the finished model.
Des comments on the lack of manufacturers prop decals with this product, but don't most model kits have the prop decals anyway?
I would certainly consider using these props occasionally, I can see one on my WNW E.II/III waiting patiently in my stash....

An interesting review. I'm thinking that these can be treated with micro grit sandpaper, and then steel wool. A few coats of sealer would help a lot with the edges. The price at around 25-30$ US is a decent ball-park price range for those of us that need to budget these things. Scrap wire, plastic and odd bits are all that is needed to enhance the detail on most WNW kits, so adding one of these props should not break the bank.

Very good product, I used one on my Roland, this propeller Wotan and such is presented for model.

Well, when you put it that way... ;)

Your modelling reviews are the best I've ever read Des. You leave no stone unturned, and your accompanying photo coverage is excellent.

A little pricy but very nice. Weren't Copper State's about 5 or 6 dollars? I can't remember. I do understand why the high price I think I'd probably make my own. I've done wood props for the last 4 WW1 models I built, of course all in the distant past. I might pick one up to try though.

Des has bumped up another thread on wooden props, it would be good to compare the two...
