While waiting for Rowan's decals for Hannover I decided to start another project. This is going to be Jasta 18 von Butlar's D.III with Rowan's decals, too.
The cockpit ready to be buried in the fuselage

The tachometer with its bulkhead will be attached after closing the rear fuselage

Mercedes D.III (how small it is after WNW 32nd scale, and how simplified)
But not much of it will be visible...

Very nice work in the cockpit, Prez. Is the framing Part pe?
Cheers,
Bud
-
Thanks, Bud.
Oops, I have forgotten to mention it, the framing is indeed Part PE.
-
It looks fantastic. Did you thicken it up somehow?
Cheers,
Bud
-
No, I did not, Bud. It is just as it is, airbrushed, not painted, so even the paint did not add much to the thickness.
-
That's fantastic Przemo
-
Przemol,
Excellent work on her interior my old friend. As alway you fellows who work in 1/72 scale never fail to amaze me. Just awesome!
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Thanks, Bo and Gregory. You are very kind.
A few steps forward - the fuselage is assembled, the lower wing and tailplane attached.

Needless to say, all the joints required more or less filling, sanding etc. what is not completed yet. The dark lines along the joints clearly indicate where filler (I use a CA glue) was applied. The fleshy coloured forward part of the cockpit coaming shows where I had to rebuild it from Magic Sculp because it was not completely moulded.
At this stage I have decided to sand down the majority of fittings like engine access hatches, footsteps framing, etc. They and some others like strut socket fittings will be rebuilt using Part PE elements.

And of the cockpit you really do not see much, taking a photo is almost impossible, a sort of spy camera would be useful.

Getting this one together nicely, mate - I like the detail work you have undertaken in the cockpit as well.
I recently built this kit - not one of Roden's (although mine was the Encore 'Blue Max' kit) better kits in this scale but does come together nicely once a fair bit of prep work has been undertaken.
Good luck on the remainder of the build.
Regards
Dave
-
Great work Przemol, I don't know how you guys work in this micro scale, 1/32 is small enough for me.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Thanks, Dave and Pete.
Now with WNW Hannover completed I could return to this tiny project.
It was four sanding, polishing, test-painting sessions before I was satisfied with the joints. Some PE bits have been added and the holes for rigging drilled.

I have also replaced the moulded radiator imitation with PE bits

Looking good Prez, as always!
These Roden kits always seem to present unique problems - we all know what we will face with Airfix, Pegasus or Merlin, but Roden is differant with each kit....
Ian
-
Prze,
Outstanding PE works my old friend. Your new radiator is an excellent replacement.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Great PE work Prez, personally I never have any luck with PE, so I'm really impressed.
Cheers
Pete.
-
I'm a big fan of your models, so I will look here.
Adam.
-
Thank you, gentlemen, for your kind words.
Some colours and decals went on.

Rowan's products were pure pleasure to work with, as usual!
Now for varnish, shading and wash to emphasize the surface details.
-
Przemol,
You chosen an excellent color scheme my old friend. I get a kick out of the smiling man in the moon character. Looking forward to seeing the next outstanding update.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

Some how I missed this one. Beautiful build and paint work on a flashy little bird!!
Steve
-
Looking really good Przemol, same scheme I used on my Roden 1:32 scale kit. You did an excellent job with the cockpit interior, hard to believe it is 1:72 scale.
Des.
-
It will be interesting to see how the intended wash will bring out all the small details that you have added.
For rigging, will you use the method of drilling holes through the upper wing?
Stefan
-
Beautiful job, Prez! If I didn't know better, I would swear this is the Eduard 1/48 kit.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Hi Przemol, I love this plane and will build now or then... which colors did you use (red blue and underside gray)?
I like the results you got, really I imagined that schema exactly as shown in your pics...
Ciao
Antonio
-
Thank you, gentlemen!
Stefan, I am indeed using the rigging method with holes through the upper wing. They are already drilled and visible in some previous shots.
Antonio, the colours are: red - Pactra Insignia Red, blue - Pactra French Blue, silbegrau - a mix od Citadel Mithril Silver and Pactra Light Grey.
The shading and wash are finished. I will also add some pigments to make dirt stains from the mud and oil.

Excellent work. Are the washes oils? Do you thin the citadel paints or were they all brush painted?
Steve
-
This is one beautiful little Pfalz you've got going here! Most impressive especially considering the scale. The colors and wash are magnificent.
-
Przemol,
As I've come expect from you, Outstanding quality, skill and craftsmanship. The oil wash is very impressive as well. Keep up the awesome work my old friend.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Thank you, gentlemen.
Wash is not oil. I prefer something very easily correctible - I am using simple water paints which, when finally washed are sealed with a clear acrylic coat.
As for the Citadel paints I am lucky to own still some from their old line, which were not so dense as the newly released. Unfortunately the new ones are completely useless for airbrushing, hard to dilute and the metallic ones have very coarse pigment blocking the nozzle. The old ones were much finer and require only moderate diluting for airbrushing.
-
Thanks PrzemoL. I have struggled with spraying the new Citadel paints. Interesting the old paint was easier to airbrush. They hand paint very well but, as you say, they clog the airbrush quickly.

The Pfalz monoplane is just finished ;)

Also, the under side of the upper wing is ready and I may start struggling with placing it on the struts.

I figure most of a Roden build is a struggle but youre making it look easy. Looking forward to see her with top wing on!!
Steve
-
So , the top wing is on. The rigging is also done. Now I have to take care for the upper wing upper side - fill the rigging holes, put on the crosses from Pheon set, finish masking the ribs, shade, attach the radiator breather and the propeller. Hopefully this weekend will see it completed.

Prez,
You're without doubt the most adaptable modeller I've had the pleasure to view.
Your attention to detail in all scales is unmatched.
Well done, my friend ;)

Thanks Bob!
Now this build is finished
