Okay , toss my hat in the ring for this one and will try to get it finished for the deadline but I make no quarantines of such things .
For this GB I will be building Eduards kit of the Roland C.II out of the box . Most of the parts are cleaned up and ready for paint , once I made some progress on this wil post some pic's

Excellent choice Alexis :)
I'm reminded of a Douglas Adams quote (Hitchhiker's guide etc.) whenever deadlines are mentioned which went something like - "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by." ;D
Personally I tend to use them as approximate guidelines for my modelling activities since I spend enough time at work meeting deadlines

Hmmmmm , not sure of it be an excellent choice but makes a good starting point for getting back to building a few WW 1 subjects for a bit .

This is wonderful news Alexis: you have been missed from this part of the forum. I agree with Paul: deadlines are things that you wave at as they go by.... And anyway this is supposed to be a hobby and to give us fun - a deadline would spoil that for me so if I keep to it - good, but if not, who cares? I do not!
Good luck with the build and I will be following along.
Stephen.

Welcome back to the WW1 fold (slightly rich coming from me, but my heart's in the right place)! I'm keen to see how this comes together.
I'm reminded of a Douglas Adams quote (Hitchhiker's guide etc.) whenever deadlines are mentioned which went something like - "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by." ;D
I think people were concerned at my love for this quote during my time as a journalist ;D
-
Don't worry if you fail to complete it before the deadline, I've done that loads of times in GB's and I haven't been banned yet.

Looking forward to seeing your Roland build Alexis.

Work has started on the cockpit parts with everything ready to go after a bit of weathering . I did the wood effect a bit different this time around . Starting with a base coat of Tamiya woodbrown and once this was dried pencil crayons where used then clear coated with tamiya clear yellow with a bit of smoke added . The instrument is a per paint PE part , I don't care for these all that much . So a few layers of tamiya clear yellow/orange was brushed over top . The ammo storage for the drums got a darker wood tone as well as the camera .
Thanks for the supports guys ! :)
Here the scheme I will be doing ....

You will not that I didn't remove the areas on the bulk heads . Did not want to spend the time cleaning those areas out so I painted them deck tan instead to look like fabric . Didn't spend any time on making the engine look good since more them 3/4 of it won't be seen so it just got the basics .

Very nice start, the interior parts are looking good. I think you are very wise not to go overboard on detail that won't be seen, it's a philosophy I have started to adopt in an effort to get stuff built!
-
Started at last! ;) Very nice. I just wonder if C.IIs interiors were not painted blue-grey. At least I remember so from my WNW build...
-
Oh please tell me you're building the scaled fish version on the box art.
Alan.
-
Good start Alexis. I too do not bother with interiors that will never be seen - life is just too short and there are too many projects waiting in the pipeline!
Stephen.
-
Thanks guys !
Can relate to that guys on adding detail which will never be seen but I still enjoy the super detailing but keep that to more of my favorite aircraft .
Prze , believe you are right on the interior colour based on the WNW kit but this build is about enjoying the build and having fun with it .
Alan , yes will doing the box cover scheme .
Was able to get the fuselage glued up and is drying right now , tomorrow clean up the seems and get some progress pic's for you gents

Very nice start Alexis, looking forward to more!

Thanks Tim !
Bit of progress to report , inner parts are fixed in place and the halves closed up which I had to go back and split this apart to fix the instrument panel after it came loose . I had to trim the edges of the PE parts , after this it the fit like a glove . The gun ring part didn't fit all that great requiring sanding and filling . Lower wing is a hard place t sand and fill that seem . It isn't bad but not all that great either , passable after some weathering . I did have to replace the one access panel on the chin form cleaning up the seem . All rigging holes are drilled , I sometimes forget to it at this stage . Ready for the home made turn buckles . The exhaust got drilled out and the landing gear legs are pinned for added comfort . Guns barrels got replace with brass tubing .

That interior looks very nice and it's good to see the rest of it progressing pretty quickly. Looking forward to seeing more.....

Progressing nicely! Pity that so nice an interior is buried so deeply...
-
Outstanding interior Alexis! Looking forward to your progress as always!

Really appreciate you guys following along on this build . It is Prze , not a lot will be visible , even when viewed form the windows .
Made a bit more progress on the painting . The rib locations got masked off once the black base coat was dried followed by a messy spotty over spray of Tamiya med blue . Tamiya white was next done in the same manor . Mixing up some Tamiya light grey , light blue and white a base coat was sprayed over . with even a lighter shade with more white added in the mix . This is the same method I used on the Hell-diver I did . Once this has dried over night the white fields need to masked off and sprayed on the wings surfaces-es

Very nice work on the core colour of this one. I was a little worried that all that preshading might show through a bit too much but you've done a great job and it looks spot on to these eyes.

I agree with Nigel. Not too much showing. Just right.

Thanks Nigel and Rick ,
I was worried myself that the ghost effect for the pre-shading would be a bit much for such a light colour and when I was spraying the layers ...it's not going to look right but as the layers kept getting added to started to blend together . First time using light colours for this .WW 2 subjects I used darker shades .

I had missed your earlier update Alexis - apologies for not commenting earlier.
The interior looks very good, but as commented it sadly will not be seen very much. The rest of the build is going well - the painting looks good to me but then I use a hairy stick for painting so I am not one to use preshading.
Stephen.

No worries Stephen and thanks for following when you can :)
Bit of progress to report , starting with the decal ling the fish scales went on better the what I was figuring . Setting solution was used to get them to snuggle down around the details . I glad there wasn't a lot of decals for this on . Once sealed the weathering began with a wash of Flory's Grime followed by a flat coat . Pastel chalk and Tamiya weathering sets finished off the rest with staining and grime , oil stains , mud splatter . This was all sealed in with a coat of Taimya clear flat . All parts other then the guns which still need a bit work are ready to go . Working on making the turn buckles now , some of the lines will be rigged now making it easier later on with out so many tight area at the wing roots .

Wow, that is looking really good Alexis. The overall finish is really good, great work with those decals and some excellent weathering going on.

Fantastic job on the decals and especially the weathering!

I agree wiith all of the above - the markings and weathering are very impressive.

Thanks Prze !

I agree with Nigel - this is shaping up very well indeed.

Really coming along nicely, Alexis. Sorry to chime in so late on this great build! Looking forward to following this to completion.
Cheers,

Hi Gary , no worries on chiming in late , just glad that you had a peak and thank you for the positive comments .
This build comes to an end , it is finished !
It was an enjoyable easy build . A few parts got a tab fiddly turning out not like how I envisioned it . I'm happy with the end results on how it all turned out . Only grip I have with the kit is how the lower wing attaches to the fuselage , a very hard seam to fill and sand like on their Pfalz D.III/a kits .
Over all the fit was really good and very little putty was used to fill . I do recommend pinning the tail skid and under carriage legs , broke the tail skid a few times until I finally pinned it . Also a 100% positive that this lesson will be repeated in the future ...the confidence is strong with in !
