Title: 1/72 Otto Doppeldecker by Bird Models
Post by: enathan on April 23, 2026, 04:30:56 AM
This prewar German pusher was not available in kit form since the Phoenix vac and Luedemann resin kits.
It's now available from Bird Models, and judging by two of their previous kits that I have (Junkers prototypes), I can't recommend it...
Still, a new kit of a rare type is worth mentioning. The kit contains resin parts and metal wire tail booms and struts, and no decals.

I have seen a scratch build of this plane and it looks awesome. It's a shame it's not my scale but it's good news a kit is out now.

Having built the Pheonix vac eons ago, this kit doesn't look any better, based on the picture. Ugh.

Agreed. The picture looks like a sloppy AI creation, which tells a lot of the actual kit...
The kit parts don't look very promising either.

I wonder why someone would go to the trouble of producing such awful castings. It seems pointless. I have some old castings of resin models about 20 years old that were similar (also some very nice ones)  from that period. With affordable 3d resin printing it seems that producing such a poor product shoud be a thing of the past!
Cheers

I made my comment somewhat hastily without looking at the pictures. Looking at them now after seeing the comments above I have to agree it doesn't look very appealing. Shame because it's a wonderful subject.
