Title: Hello from planet Earth!
Post by: lawman56 on February 28, 2013, 08:54:29 AM
:) Hello all. I am about to embark on my first foray into the world of 1/32 scale WWI aircraft. What a better way to prepare for the fun and pitfalls than join a forum.  :)

A modelling background; I started building models when I was 14 or so, and after a hiatus which included 9 years of military service, marriage, and the raising of 2 children, I returned to the hobby almost 10-12 years ago. My primary focus has been on 1/35th scale armor and armor dioramas, 1/48th scale aircraft, and the construction, demolition, re-construction, re-demolition, and current construction of an HO scale model railroad.

To be truthful, until Wingnut Wings started to create such fantastic looking kits, I never dared attempt Great War aircraft. I can, at times, be very meticulous about detail and the thought of re-creating all that exposed rigging, control wiring, pulleys and other odds and ends, seemed daunting at best.

I am looking forward to learning as much as I can, and possibly sharing some of the knowledge I've accumulated over the years.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard, Joe.  Glad you found us.  You can't beat WNW as an intro to WWI modeling and there's no better place than this forum to learn the craft.  I look forward to seeing your projects.
Cheers,
Bud

Welcome aboard Joe from another AFV modeller bitten by the WnW bug. If I can finish them (not without mistakes mind you), anyone can. If I'm not prying, does your nickname indicate that you're on the job? If so, we have something in common. I'm retired from the OPP here in Ontario, Canada.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks to all,

In answer to your question, Chris, yes and no. My nine years in the US Army were as a Military Policeman, 6 years as a combat/line patrol and my last 3 in garrison as a certified Traffic Accident Investigator. Sadly, injuries prevented me from being able to continue my military career or to pursue a career in civilian law enforcement.

For a period of time I drove tractor trailers across the country, (both yours and mine), and "Lawman" was my CB handle, as my co-driver was a former medic and went by "Doc".

Shortly after, I started working in the armed security field for the US Army, and am still enjoying it. Imagine all of the authority and none of the politics! Couple that with staying out of the elements, a government paycheck and pension, and I'd be a fool to leave.  :)

While an accident investigator, my radio call sign was "Tango 56". Hence, "Lawman56".

Ironically, while modelling in 1/35 AFVs, my brilliant mind concluded that 1/32 aircraft couldn't be too hard, considering it's almost 1/35.  :o

After building, painting, stripping paint, and repainting an "easy" Tamiya Spit MkIXc, I have since rethought that brilliant idea. A couple successful builds under my belt, and again, the introduction of WNW, and I'm ready to break, I mean build, something different!   :D

Hey Joe, welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing you bring your AFV experience to the Great War table. Maybe consider showing the group some of your armour builds in the Time To Relax section.
