Alberto Bortolozzo was the last commander of 260 Squadrigilia based out of Saint Andrea seaplane station. The kit is a 1/72 Pegasus offering. Build log can be found in the Under construction page.
This is what I?m calling finished! Not an easy kit to build at all. Some issues were my own fault and some with the kit design. Since my last post I just needed to mount the upper wing and rig everything. Well, I wanted to use the kit interplane struts and use the upper portion of the cabane struts. After painting the interplane struts and tack gluing them, I quickly realized that I had mounted the engine about 3mm too high and the wing rested on the engine. I had to scratch build all the struts to ensure the upper wing fit properly.
Overall I?m pleased with the outcome but it sure took a lot of work to get to this point.
I?m posting this now but still have to add the serial numbers. I have ordered some decals that I hope will work. This pilot also had a slogan painted on each side in Italian. I may try to paint it at some point.

Another lovely floatplane from your stable, Tim!
I know they are not easy (had a go at one once and was not happy with) so have avoided them since.
You done good to put this one together so nicely.

I never got bored watching those lovely lines of M.5s. Especially when built so attractively. Thanks, Tim, for sharing this beauty.

Another lovely flying boat to your collection Tim! Good luck with hand painting the "frangar non flectar" slogans.

Another beauty Tim, beautifully constructed and painted all round. Very impressive work.

Really stunning.

Thank you all for your gracious comments. I hope I haven?t bashed on Pegasus too much. I really appreciate their contribution to our 1/72 niche and the wide range of WWI subjects they offer. This particular kit has been most challenging though.

I really like how you?ve done this - especially the wing effects. It?s a beautiful plane and I have always wanted to do one but there aren?t many options around. You are inspiring me however to try and tackle some of these lovely floatplanes.
Cheers

That is a fine job on a difficult aircraft.

You keep hitting them out of the park, Tim. Another beauty!

Excellent work as usual Tim and a lovely result. Certainly not a shake and bake kit, but you've made a cracking job of it

The M5 was a beautiful aeroplane - you have done the type real justice with this superb model.

Excellent stuff! I especially like the well weathered look of the wings.
