Title: 1/72 Roden Nieuport 24bis
Post by: ScottJ on November 04, 2025, 09:09:30 AM
For better or worse, here?s what I ended up with after a several years layoff? seems I?m still knocking the rust off.
If you saw the build log for this Nieuport you know I?m disappointed with how I handled the weathering, it?s really overdone for this scale.  I also had issues with the Roden decals (which I?ve usually been able to salvage in the past) so had to source some replacements.  From the Datafile (Nie 24-27 At War) I?m finding that the personal markings aren?t quite right for this pilot, Sergent A.C. Campbell - N 124 but at that point it was too late to correct.
Had a hard time coming up with pictures that weren?t blurry so have included some while it was still sitting on the workbench.
Thanks for taking a look?

Very nicely done.  I always like seeing the Nieuport 24 and 27 variations.

I think you did a great job after your layoff. It's an excellent build, really neat and precise and you've ended up with a good looking model. Treat the weathering experience as a learning process, hopefully you'll pick up some ideas from others.

One subtle touch I really like is the way you weathered the markings differently from the underlying fabric. This is something many modellers ignore, but doing this makes for a much more realistic finish IMO.

Great job on your N 24bis -

Really like the shading effect to the fabic on the wings.

I still like it despite the weathering issue

Me, I like this one, too. I have seen many models with more overdone shading. ;)

Gorgeous Nieuport and Great photos! I think the weathering is terrific. Not overdone at all!

Brilliant work on the different silver tones and shading.
