I'm gearing up for a project. I thought I needed a Clerget 11c but I'm not optimistic about finding one.
The project I want to do is Nungesser's Nieuport 25, N5324. No kit exists in 1/48 scale so a fun session of hacking, cutting and pinching of parts from other kits near at hand.
Small numeral 25s can be seen below identifying this airframe on the base of the wing strut and again on the fuselage just under the horizontal stabilizer.

An unknown number of Ni25 airframes were built but did not go into production because the 11c, what the 25 was designed to use, did not perform as well as expected.
See below:

So it seems Nungesser's 25 was powered by a Clerget 9 most of the time. As it happens, I have the Eduard Clerget Camel, kit #82172 that has 4 engines included.
Nowhere can I find written what these four engines are. I need one Clerget 9B for the Camel and they tell me what to use...

That leaves me three extras Clergets for the Ni25.

Can anyone enlighten me or point me to where I should be looking to identify these engines and what plastic I should put into the Ni25.
Thanks.

Not a direct answer, but do you know of this kit? https://www.scalemates.com/no/kits/karaya-48011-nieuport-ni-25--153949 . They make good kits, usually, but doesn't seem to be available any more.

Allan,
I checked out the instructions for the original boxing of this tool - #11151 - on Scalemates (https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/0/1/8/1266018-28-instructions.pdf) and they say this as to which engine is made from which parts:
Bentley: E15, E16, E44
Clerget: E13, E14, E19
Gnome: E7, E42, E45
Le Rhone: E43, E46
As I'm guessing the included Clerget is a 9, and based on the info supplied (this is my first time learning of the type!) none of these would be suitable for the Ni.25?

Wow Zac, perfect answer, never would have thought to track it back that way.
I can make a Clerget from the Bentley. The cylinders are virtually identical as are the pushrods.

The big change is the Clerget exhaust comes off the back whereas the Bentley is off the side.

I can duplicate the rear Clerget exhaust with stretched sprue easily.
Thanks again, this allows me to do the Ni25 and still do my Barker Camel correctly.

Interestingly, in 1/72 scale HR Model (old) and Choroszy (recent) have kits of Nungesser's Nieuport 25, the HR with an 11c Clerget and the Choroszy with a 9c Clerget.

I'm so glad to see that Allan. And here I was thinking I'd torpedoed your plans!
Scalemates has become a priceless resource for me. I'm forever checking instructions (not all kits have theirs uploaded, but TONS are) to help with reboxed models or even different manufacturers' versions, as well as with assisting in pre-purchase research for kits with a listing of in-box reviews (again not comprehensive but still wide-ranging). It's a terrific resource.
All the best with the builds - I look forward to seeing them, especially the new-to-me Ni.25!
