Title: Heller Stampe from "The Blue Max" movie......

Who can forget the wingless triplane we all grew up with from "The Blue Max" movie poster. To say I've seen the movie dozens and dozens of times over the years would be an understatement.
In addition to the pretty accurate replicas made especially for the movie, contemporary biplanes, Tiger moths and one Stampe were painted up as German and British aircraft. I read somewhere that the aircraft were all painted in permanent colors as the Germans then overpainted in water-base in the British colors so it could be washed off. The Stampe and Moths were used to fill in the background with the more accurate replicas closer to the cameras.
The Stampe never appears with guns as a brit but was often photographed with guns in German colors.

I started with the old Heller kit and sourced markings from the decal stash. A lot of shape issues but it looks the part.

I painted it to match screen grabs and rigged with E-Z Line.

This is the first Blue Max build I've done, an Airfix Tiger Moth will be in German colors soon.

Lovely work Allan!

A little while back I did a Tiger and D.VII to go with my Bellamy Pfalz in 1/72 (still want to do Willi's Dr.I) and I had a blast: I'm excited to see your take on the German Tiger!
