I was given the opportunity lately to paint up a new set of figures from Model Cellar for the box art. These 1/35 scale resin castings of WW1 German Doctor & Orderly w/Wounded Infantryman were sculpted by Mike Good (MC35163). I was asked to pose them in a vignette, using the old Esci Horse-drawn medical cart. Knowing that the WW1 German medical carts were quite different from the Esci kit, I modified it by adding a flat top and some epoxy-putty tarps to help make it look more the part. The figures were painted in my typical method of Tamiya airbrushing and Vallejo acrylic brush painting.
Since Paul from the Model Cellar has posted some photos announcing these figures for the upcoming MFCA show in Philadelphia, I thought I'd drop them here so everyone could have look.
Cheers,
Gary

What a testament to your skills. That's brilliant!

Fantastic work!
(Shaking hands ordering these figures immediately?)
P. S. I actually have been researching quite a while what real wagon Esci could have had modelled their kit on ? in vain to this day. There is no actual wagon from WW1 or WW2 I have found Escis ?medical horse-drawn wagon? could be based on. Seems as if it is pure fantasy.
Their horse-drawn supply wagon is better. Gets quite close to a <<schwerer Proviantwagen 05>> that were widely used, also with the medical corps

Lovely work all round Gary. I saw this announced on Planet Figure and was very taken with the whole scene, you've done a great job on this. Excellent groundwork as well, very realistic.

Impressive execution and expressive scene.
Congratulations to you!

Thanks to all for the kind comments!

Thanks Zac - it's been an honour to have been asked by Model Cellar to do a couple of box art works. I really like their products and Mike Good's sculpting is exceptional...which makes them fun to paint. Cheers!

Thanks Adreas. I'm painfully aware of the inaccuracies of the Esci kit. It's hard to believe it's been five years since I posted this photo here (while building my Bruno rail gun) and you explained to me at that time that the Supply Wagon would be a better choice - so I went with that thank goodness! Paul wanted me to use the Ambulance version for the backdrop for his figures, and luckily I'd kept this model (unpainted) in a drawer until now. I convinced him I'd have to modify it to at least look better, so we agreed on what I did for him. Cheers!

Thanks Nigel - the photos that Paul posted didn't have the scalpel blade on the doctors instrument...so I had to add it and re-take the photos. Somehow the wrong ones got put up on Planetfigure. Also - that little vignette didn't travel well. I packed it off to Paul for his display and it took him a few days to re-assemble the bits that showed up. I hope David Lane doesnt look at it too closely at the MFCA show this weekend! Cheers,
Gary

Sorry Gary for being the same smart-ass like five years ago ;D
I remember now, it was an amazing project. I browsed through my shelf of doom last evening and picked my long-started Esci-Heeresfeldwagen, scratching my head about getting back into that project and bringing it to an end.

Rest assured Andreas - I have benefitted greatly from your advice and research! All very appreciated. And good luck with your shelf of doom projects :)
Cheers,
Gary
