I did these several years ago for a laff... Always loved box top art.
Monogram 1/4" with an Airfix 109.

You can only imagine my troubled childhood when I discovered Zeros were never yellow and 109s were never lavender....
We can't take this hobby too seriously. (Says he who just finished the Eduards Hannover....)

Great trip back down "Memory Lane" Allan! Wonderful!
Cheers,

Those models look fantastic - a great tribute to the box art. Back in the 60s I had the Aurora catalogue and still think they had the most exciting box art, and since colour references were scarce (to me) it did not matter that the Fw 190's were black and the Zeros yellow. As Lance says - that brings back great memories. Cheers!

I love it! I've done similar 'homages' to airfix and revell boxes of my own childhood in the 1980s, so these 'tributes' resonate with me :)
Cheers,

Superb models Allan and great concept. These are much better colour schemes than the real ones! I think Jo Katula (sp?) was the imaginative artist. Lovely models.
I did something similar with the Fokker D8 kit unfortunately. The box art showed hexagonal lozenges angled across the wing, so I carefully marked these out in pencil on a Matt primer, then painstakingly filled the colors in. I was so pleased with the result until I later found that 'D8's had a wooden wing, at that time supposedly in olive green. I took off the wing and sanded it flat then brushed it green.
Wish I'd taken pictures, but now I wish I'd left it 'katullad'

This brings back memories I bought the zero kit back in the 1960s when i was young.

Thanks everyone.
I've thought about adding to this collection but I'm thinking I'll leave it to just these first four.

If these were less accurate like the first four, I'd consider it. The Hellcat with the brighter blue and neutral gray bottom is a contender and I already have the Monogram kit in the stash...

I love this idea, and they're executed so well. Thanks so much for sharing! They remind me of Brad's nostalgia builds, and the similar-to-Brad concept I have in mind for a few subjects of my own. These brought a big smile to my face.

This really brings back the memories of 98 cent (US) models that my brother and I built in the early 60s. I will always remember my disappointment when I opened the 109. It was a deep red plastic, which I didn't mind at all, and had the decal locations molded into the plastic. But if it looked like anything, it looked kind of like a 109 V1 with a deeply flattened spinner. The rivets were so prominent you could use the wings and fuselage as sandpaper. Very good idea and results on the aircraft and the homage photos!

Very cool. Great execution.

Thanks all.
Little build projects like this keep me from taking this all too seriously.
Look for my Hollywood Air Force post.

Looks great Allan. This is one I?ve always wanted to try and make. The Bristol F2b from Death Hunt 1981.

I hope Allan will forgive me for going off-topic:

As it happens this machine is airworthy again in the movie paint scheme and lives at my local field, so there are a few photos around to help with reference if you need them.
