Hooray finished it at last. Just back from it's first time at a show yesterday I thought i'd better add a few pictures and say thanks for the encouragement during the build :)
Nice accurate kit although I spent a lot of time adding new details and scratchbuilding as usual (at least you can actually see the front cockpit and instrument panel on this one unlike some I've done. Rigging is all in 1lb monofilament and struts are sanded brass rod. All painted in acrylic with oil paints used for weathering.

And for those that don't know the original kit here's a peek of what we started with. I discarded all the metal pieces and replaced the details on the plastic bits. Wanting something a bit different I also chose to make one of the versions which had it's undercarriage modified from the original rather ungainly style

A great build of an under-appreciated airplane! I really like the slushy ground effects too.
-
Thanks matey
the original plan was to have a snow covered ground, but I decide at the last minute that it would look too stark so made up teh ground as usual and then built up the snow effects slowly over 3 sessions till I got where I wanted to be. Now need to sort out a couple of suitably garbed crewmen for it ;)
I'll admit I didn't know much about the FK8 until I started this model, but as you say it's a much underappreciated design that may not have the glamour of the brightly coloured scouts, but was a solid machine that performed much better than many others and gave it's crews a solid platform that could be depended upon.

Stunning results! I enjoyed following along on your build. The groundwork/ presentation is the Icing on the Cake!

Looking great Paul! I like the FK.8 and you did an excellent job with it.

Thanks you gents ;D

Such a nice looking model, Paul. The time you spent on the groundwork also was well spent - it looks excellent.

Amazing model in this scale.

Thanks Gary.
Took a bit of experimenting to get what I was after with the groundwork, but pleased with the effect overall :)
Amazing model in this scale.
Appreciate that Prze :)

That looks really nice! A difficult build too. I am afraid to try those Pegasus kits as they appear very challenging.
-
This turned out really well, the attention to detail is superb. I really like the front end, radiators and fuel tank with the piping and breather. Superb in this scale. It looks fantastic on that base, which is also beautifully done. Great job on some teeny-tiny bits of plastic......

Thanks RVW :)
Don't be put off having a go at one. They make some really good subjects and are generally accurate in outlines so it's just a question of adding a lit of 'love' to them. They stand up really well against the more modern kits I've built in this scale when completed and the pleasure from adding your own stamp on a model rather than assembling a kit of parts is why I keep returning to them

Appreciate it Nigel. ;D
Nice to add an interesting shape to the display shelf

Wonderful work on this one - especially as these kits are pretty crude from the box so highlights your good modelling skills.

Very nicely done!
I built mine quite a few years ago and commissioned some PE for the A-W name plates, Rotherham pump mount, and control actuators. Colin at Freightdog bought sets to add to his remaining kits but I have no idea if there are any left.

Cheers Ian.
I spent a lot of time debating over the nameplate detail and weather I could replace it with some of the 'raised decal' type lettering or create a small stencil to build it up. In the end I decided to press on and get the model finished reasoning that even though it's not quite right it gives the 'feel' of the original ;)
Beautiful model. Haven?t seen many models of this type.
Thanks Torbion
As you say not seen often (which is the main appeal for me) Dave Hooper made a lovely job of the CSM 1/48 kit that I had a good look at on one of the SIG display stands last year so when one of the old Pegasus kits appeared on fleaBay I just couldn't resist ;D

Not an easy kit to build, but you have really presented a terrific result. Love the convincing groundwork and the finesse of the rigging in this scale. Impressed with how you got that tiny little dashboard to grow on your finger. 😉
Cheers

Beautiful model of an unusual plane. I agree with what you said about Pegasus kits being worth the effort in the end.

Thanks Syd
Glad you like the model (Lucky the dashboard stopped growing when it was just the right size) ;)

Cheers Will. I've a definite fondness for Pegasus kits and once the current build is out of the way will revisist the stack and see what's next :)
-
Great job, especially since it is a Pegasus kit - they're not easy.
Alan.

They certainly don't compare to the latest models but just need a bit of love ;)

I really love seeing these kits built by expert modellers such as yourself; it's one thing to build a 'shake and bake', but another yet to take one of these lumps of plastic and turn it into a work of art, as you have done. I doff my cap to you, sir!
Please keep these coming! :)
Cheers,

That's very kind of you Brad. I was very lucky to meet a fabulous local modeller who's work and encouragement helped set me on the right path initially. Finding this forum was the other piece in the jigsaw with some brilliant modellers, clear explanations and lovely photography. Throw in a bunch of positive encouragement and a dash of stubbornness and it becomes a shared journey in creativity. :)

Fantastic?.it finely captures the powerful bulkiness of the machine. Great tribute to the workhorse of the western skies. Great one!

I know the single seaters get all the glamorous schemes, but there are plenty of 2 seaters that don't get built because they ain't pretty enough so I'm aiming to build a few this year to redress the balance a bit ;D
