Dear all,
Latest completed project - Roden's 48 scale Airco DH4.
I got hold of this kit at a model show last year from Models for Sale stand for ?15 which is really good price for this kit.
I've built this one pretty much OOB with the exception of some minor detailing to cockpit and observer's position. A very demanding (but enjoyable) kit to put together not helped by the usual confusing and vague instructions. Lots of test fitting, trimming, shimming, filling and sanding to get a good fit of parts.
Painted by brush as always and rigged with combination of smoke coloured nylon mending thread for bracing and Oschi standard elastic thread for control wires. Rigging the wings gave me some problems as it seemed to fight me all the way - but I obviously got there in the end.
I am pleased how this has turned out for me but do admit there are the usual flaws here and there .....
Completed in the markings of N6000, No. 5 (Naval) squadron, RNAS, February 1918.

Great to see this one finished Dave (I kow exactly what you mean about being fought all the way, but glad that you persevered)

"....the usual flaws here and there ....." Not seeing anything, Looks fantastic.
Almost got this kit but the BlueMax version came to me, 2 in fact, so I will be doing those.
Your build is great inspiration.

Oh my, I have this kit in the stash and a couple of times said to myself "this will be the next one" only to do something else. Bravo on the finish and bravo for persevering with the rigging, that doesn't look easy.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Having seen your model and two real-life examples in Hood and Omaka, I regret even more this model is not available in any of my scales - 72 or 32...
-
That's a fantastic job on a challenging kit. The end result looks really good.

Very nice, great to see an old Roden kit done justice.
And yes, as per Przemol, it's weird that such an important type isn't available in 72 or 32. I'm sure it would have been on WNW's to do list, having done the DH9 and 9A.
As for 72, Airfix's DH4 was such a nice kit for its time; but that time was... *cough* well I was at school when I built it, and now I'm long since retired.
Anyway, very impressed by Dave's beautifully built DH4.

Really beautiful Dave!

Well done Dave: another superb model from your desk. I do like the colour scheme - so different from the usual RFC scheme. The rigging is spot on as far as I can see and no it would not be easy.
Looking forward to seeing this shortly - and I will try to find the (non-existent) flaws here and there.....
Stephen.
