Hello!
After a long pause in my ww1 builds, I finally have started a new project. Actually, I have scratchbuilt the main components in the autumn, but was again sidetracked by a few ww2 kit subjects, mainly the Dambusters Lancaster for a group build in a Finnish modelling forum. But enough is enough :). Now back to the main course of ww1 2-seat Albatroses. I still have the J.1 waiting for some care and attention, but my inspiration is very fickle and why not! This one is now in a phase that is very enjoyable in scratchbuilding; the first things are getting the final colour and soon the plane will be put together and starts slowly to look like the end result might be.
I chose the Linke-Hoffmann-built variant because of the mottled camouflage, to get some variation in my bunch of Albatros two-seaters. The colors are described in the contemporary report as dull green and earth, whatever that really means. I decided to use the green as the base and the lighter RAF earth color as the added one. The base color looks darker in the photos than the lighter blotches. Could be the other way round depending of the shades used, I guess?

Nice ;D
I've got a nice Choroszy J.II which is in my pile of potential 'shelf queen' projects . . . .

Looking great Skyhook, and a wonderful subject! The colours are indeed reminiscent of the old Humbrol 29 and 30 RAF colours (am I showing my age now...?) Looking forward to seeing more.
Would you consider entering this one in to our "Shelf Queen" group build, starting on the 15th? I think this would be an excellent one to showcase :)
Cheers!

Thanks, Paul and Brad! I assumed that scratchbuild projects are probably out-of-bounds, but if not...please count me in :). To be honest, this C.X is not really a shelf queen in my books, I did the main components in the late summer/early autumn, so it is still early days in my scale. I actually have some that have been unfinished and untouched for literally decades; A Lohner Flying boat for 20 years (main components ready, but no engine, wings separate, etc.) and even a Caproni Ca.42 for 15 years (the wings and struts already in place, but just a base colour overall and the little bits missing). I am open for suggestions, which one to dig upfor the group build? Please help! :)

Wowzer a Ca.42 would be awesome 8), but I'd be happy to see the C.X which is something out of the rut anyway

Nice work on your C.X.
In the sixties I collected airplane pictures sold in paper bags to glue into an album
"Die Eroberung des Weltalls" and one poster assembled from 8 pictures impressed me out of all proportions!
Hint, hint.... ;D

This looks like another excellent build. An interesting subject, it's looking very good at this stage. Great scratchbuilding work as always.

Thanks, guys!
Yep, i will look to the Caproni as soon as i get this C.X ready first and regarding the Albatros, it got its wings ready and struts attached today. Next, the landing gear and the shortening of the spinner ( cut from a spare for Academy Hawker Typhoon!). In this pic it is just blue-tacked in place.

That is a type we do not see very often. First class.

Thanks!
I had also more or less bypassed the C.X type; In fact I think now it is one of the best looking Albatros two seaters when seen in 3d as a model. There is still a few I have not modelled yet; C.IX, the later war types, J.II, even C.I has escaped my attention! So many planes, so little time :)

This has turned to be a lovely model Skyhook, especially in this scale.
Looking forward to the other variants of this bird.
