Title: 1/72 Revell Fokker D.VII

Another finished project off the assembly line.  Plane depicts Jasta 19 Willhellm Leusch's (OAW) Fokker D.VII.  I used  Wingnut Wings for color scheme and guidance.

This is a very old kit and I remember building this kit in the late 1960s.  The following improvements were added:

Wheels, propeller, and cockpit dash were Eduard extras.
Engine was extra from a MAC Roland D.VI
Generic  seat from Blackbird models.
Internal cockpit from Roseparts PE and machine guns from Roseparts resin.
Aviattic 4 color lozenge with blue rib tapes.
Blue was Tamiya XF8 and yellow was Vallejo RLM04 71.078
Dragon decal from Print Scale.  The Eduard decal was too big.
Crosses extras from Eduard

The Aviattic decal lined up well with the wing ribs but not so with leading and trailing edges.  Also I found that the Aviattic decals are difficult to trim and repair.  All struts were thinned  I had to paint some of the trailing and leading edges. I should of adjusted the ailerons as they are not accurate but I forgot until it was too late.  Control horns and other small parts were scratch built as necessary. This is the last Revell Fokker D.VII I will build as the Eduart kit is so good.  This was a nice trip down memory lane.

A lovely job on a "classic" kit! It's interesting to compare the photos of this and your Eduard build, you can see how things have improved in the last 30-40 years!

FWIW I find the best way to trim Aviattic decals is with a brand new razor blade. It has to be brand new, the blades dull quickly. A tip I picked up from another modeller is to snap them in half to make them easier to handle.

That is a beauty, and thanks for the checklist of things to fix on the Revell kit.  I still have a heap of them in the stash, along with the pirate copies from Nichimo, Eldon, Entex, ESCI and... whoever.  I guess you're telling me I need to bump the Eduard kits to the far end of the queue.

Wonderful work! Willhelm Leusch's machine is hard to pull off with that bright yellow front fuselage and struts, but you really did it justice with this model.
