Title: Exactly what is wrong with this kit........
Post by: Allan31 on November 27, 2024, 05:50:51 AM
I grew up with the Guillow's kit and now I want (need) one in plastic.

!/32 scale is not happening, I need 1/48 and the Planet models seems to be the only game in town but have read people bashing it. And what's the difference between a CIV and CV?

Any thoughts?

Jaeger Miniatures made a very nice resin kit of the Rumpler C.IV in 1/48.  It shows up now and then for sale on Ebay.

Hi Allan,

the nose has a  wrong cross section like all kits except WNW (http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/E68C4142A74EC46F8ECEE0021BC2F45F).

For a spinner you need a circular cross section and for the transition from a rectangular shape one can round the edges, Alb C.V, VII and X,
or curve the sides, LVG C.V and Ru C.IV while keeping the corners.

The machine in Munich clearly shows the edges, it has the later nose without spinner. On period photographs this edge is "hidden" by the colour demacation line.

Jager and Planet have flat sides, Pegasus, Joystick and Merlin lack the edges.

More Photos here (https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=756.0) and there (https://www.idflieg.com/munchen_rumpler_civ.htm) but they all miss my view.

Planet kits for sale click (https://www.besserepreise.com/modellbau/planet-models/planet-models-sonstige/planet-models-129-plt167---rumpler-c.iv.htm) and clack (https://www.1001hobbies.de/flugzeugemodelle-148/27648-planet-models-pla16748-rumpler-c-iv-voller-harz-bausatz-der-wwi-deuts.html)

Greetings Joachim

Thanks all,
The Planet Models version is on its way as I found it on sale for $48.USD. The Jaeger version is still not less than $150. USD.
All I need now is the kit. I am well armed to tackle this build.

Be careful: I once have build Planet Models Rumpler C. I and it was an amazing, well-fitting kit. But its wings look like bananas after these about ten years. So structural rigging with fishing line is highly recommended to avoid dropping of the wings.

At least resin kits never have used sniper rifles to lower the numbers of pupils in my class ? yet  :o

Hi Warren,

I just caught up with Flamingo?s reference to ?I don?t like Mondays? from Bob Geldof. Often just meant as just a soft song about a week?s beginning, it in fact refers to a very sad event, a school shooting in 1979 when several teachers were killed and several pupils were wounded.
So resin kits might be annoying (e. g. because of dripping wingtips), but they are never deadly. Being a teacher myself, I am happy about that. Sorry that this might have been hardly understandable.

Borsos,
I'm a teacher too, and yes, you are right, it was not understandable.

And we now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Sorry guys, wasn't aware of that. I just meant the melody.
Resin is ok for figures, engines, wheels and so on, but for thin wings and struts I do not like it at all.
