Title: Dutch Sopwith Pup
Post by: The_Magnificent_Squadron on November 18, 2024, 04:05:26 AM
My take on Sopwith Pup LA-41, Formerly N6164 of 9(N) Squadron RNAS which crash landed in Zeeland on the Dutch Coast, the aircraft was recovered and repaired and likely partly reskinned due to resting in salt water for a day or so which is why the fuselage and wings are two different colours. Some guesswork went into the markings and colours but I believe it was likely to be red markings, since making the model I found a clearer photo which shows that the lift here lettering was infact in dutch on the real aircraft and the red tail markings are simply a trick of a lower quality photo. The pups prop survived the crash but the engine being submerged did not and was replaced by the engine off a Nieuport 11. Photos also show it with its vickers gun seemly missing its jacket which i have replicated. Bjorn at Great Bear Models very kindly designed and printed the centre section which was painted and fitted by me and the part is currently for sale on his website. The prop on the aircraft is a proper plane creation

Lovely job Sam and a very interesting subject. Very nice additions to the base kit.

Again, when I click on each image I just get a "Postimages" page, not the larger version of your photos....

what a lovely model Pup - and in very different markings that makes for a change too.

I agree with Dave - very nice to see one of these in different markings. The clear section upper wing also adds a different aspect to the model. First class in every way.

Very nice work and a unique scheme. The Dutch markings and that transparent center section really give it a new appeal, a beautiful model!
Cheers,
Lance

I agree with the others.  Beautiful build of a classic bird in unusual markings!
