Hi all,
'Lukgraph' are to release a fully 3D printed Italian Caproni Ca.3 heavy bomber and in 1/32nd scale,
Mike

Bloomin' heck! That will be mahoosive. A favourite of mine, for a moment my wallet trembled but I just don't have the space to assemble or store the thing.....
That is quite an ambitious release.

That is quite an ambitious release.
You could always build an extension ;D
(Mind you we'd have to have and extra table at shows to display the bloomin' thing) ;)
-
Don?t we live in the golden times of modeling? I am really looking forward to this one, but I am also looking forward to Lukgraph?s Hansa-Brandenburg C. I, Rumpler C. I, Morane Saulnier L, ?.
-
...I just don't have the space to assemble or store the thing.....
Me neither, but I want one anyway!
Willem
-
I would buy a 1/48th scale version.
-
I can see the competition tables will be full of Capronis next year!
S
-
Sandy, my "day job" is landscape painting, and among painters the standing joke is "the biggest picture always gets the prize..." :D
This is an amazing release. We are truly living in the Golden Age of WWI modeling.
Dutch
-
That is great news. I am planning one to be bought and built.
I can see the competition tables will be full of Capronis next year!
S
That would be lovely, but I am afraid not. In fact not so many of these kits are actually being built.
-
When Lukgraph was taking a poll of kits people wanted to see them do, I put in this one (along with the Zeppelin Staaken), with no hope of it being done. My stash at this point is of biblical proportions, but I will be compelled to buy this one! And the Staaken ;) :D :o
-
Collaboration or coincidence?
KatModel have had the same subject suggested on their home page for some time. It cannot be economic for several manufacturers to produce a model of this size, so perhaps it?s a case of first to market wins the day?
David
-
Great news! Very brave !

Just to get warmed up:

This is an article (tekst, photographs and drawings) I found in magazine 'ZEITSCHRIFT FUR FLUGTECHNIK UND MOTORLUFTSCHIFFAHRT 9. JAHRGANG 1918 + 10. JAHRGANG 1919'
Have fun,

Hi all,
Update from Lukgraph.
Mike
There are no previews of the Ca.3 yet, as soon as I have the chance I will definitely show them.
I can only add that for the first time in the history of LukGraph, figures will be added to the model.
It will be the entire crew of the Caproni Ca.3, 2 gunners and 2 pilots.
-
This keeps getting better and better...
Willem
-
I would buy a 1/48th scale version.
Yep, so would I, I guess that would be an acceptable compromise, my workbench is not apt to host such a building...
-
I DO have the Choroszy Modelbud 1/72 kit, but it is quite daunting.
It's just a bag of resin bits and -to be diplomatic- a very basic instruction sheet.
Willem

Willem, I have the same kit and agree with your description...

Wow
-
Looks beautiful, but based on their pricing, I will have to start saving my pennies/dollars now until the release.
-
Definitely an impressive and weird machinery. The Italian theme is also much more appealing to me than the German Gotha/AEG bombers. Guess what the consumer price will be?
Anyway, right now I don't want to build a new room for my property for the sake of a 1/32 Caproni. Another problem might be the width of the front door. Obviously the unassembled kit will fit through the door, but what if I assemble it and want to bring to a competition? ;D
I wonder if it will be available in a smaller scale?

Hi Richard,
The 'Lukgraph' FB page said they may consider 1:48th scale and the previous render shots shows 1:32, 1:48,
Mike

Not a problem guys??.according to the renders the model comes without wings ;)

Why didn't I think of that ;D
-
Hi all,
According to 'Lukgraph':
"Be healthy and happy!
By the way, right after the new year we're releasing Caproni Ca.3",
Mike
-
From what I heard at the source, 32nd version will be released first. 48th is planned for mid 2025.
And it will not be cheap...
-
Hi all,
I asked what the sizes will be,
Mike
"Wingspan for 1:32 approx 710 mm and for 1:48 approx 476 mm.
The wings will be reinforced with triple wire (2 x 1.6 mm and 1 x 2 mm for 1:32 scale and 2 x 1 mm, 1 x 1,2 mm for 1:48).
Additionally, there will be trestles under the wings on 2 sides.
All struts and undercarriage with wires."

I heard the same. I'm afraid my bankmanager (read wife) will not approve.

Willem
The clue is to get it secretly into the house. Then you can always tell <<Oh..this? This is an old one!>> (Real masters of that strategy always keep some dust to sprinkle it over the box) ;)
-
That's a good one!
But how do I explain the hole in our bankaccount.... :-\
-
Maybe Lukgraph will offer financing?
I still want one (I use the old engineering 'spouse gating" - I never say no to her, so she never says no to me).
I just hope the price doesn't go over Paypal's limit ;)
-
More info from LukGraph:
It's still too early, I think at the end of January.

Hi all,
Crew figures for the Caproni Ca.3
Mike
"Caproni Ca.3 1:32 scale
Bomber crew - will be standard equipment of the kitset.
Position for pre-flight photo.
Test print almost successful - there will still be small corrections."
-
I am really looking forward to the Caproni. But I could go without these figures. I do not like figures that are just standing around, doing nothing.
-
Like the WNW F2a and Gothas, (which I had but then sold,) a Caproni would be just too large a model to be of any interest to me.
It probably does make sense for a short run manufacturer like Lukgraph who will likely sell enough to cover costs, but it will need to be fairly expensive to do so.
Anyway, best of luck to those who buy one, and I do hope to see one built up on the competition table.
Sandy
-
Hi all,
Final renders.
'Lukgraph' say they hope to make this aircraft in 1:48th scale around the middle of this year,

Beautiful! I look forward to getting the 48th version
-
So, who will make a conversion set to replicate the flying replica with its "flat" engines? ;D
I'm interested to see folks' builds of these kits.
-
Hi all,
The Caproni Ca3 is in production at 'Lukgraph'.
Here's the colour schemes,
Mike

Wow, will have to get a second mortgage if I pull the trigger...
-
Your next project Mike? A bit of a rest after the Phonix.......? ;) ;D
-
Wow, will have to get a second mortgage if I pull the trigger...
I posted on another forum, wondering what the kit would cost. This was the answer:
Re-mortgage, divorce settlement, and then the therapy costs.
Willem ;)
-
Although the 1/48 is beyond tempting I have to discipline myself. I am trying not to buy more aircraft kits and instead build stuff I already have to get the stash down. I will however really enjoy seeing some of you guys building this in either scale.
Alan.
-
Your next project Mike? A bit of a rest after the Phonix.......? ;) ;D
Hi Nigel,
Well I still have the WNW Gotha, Felixstowe and AEG in my stash.
The Caproni Ca3 is probably bigger and bound to be more expensive.
Storing the finished model, let alone travelling to shows with it will be problematic as well.
But, never say never ;)
Mike
-
I saw somewhere the figure of 499 Euros mentioned, but don?t know if that?s confirmed. Would certainly be a centrepiece!
-
Hi all,
Lukgraph are certainly pushing the boat out with this release.
Wood presentation box.
Pre-orders expected in 2-3 weeks.
No price yet :o

I hope I am wrong, but based on the new 1/24 kits, I think 499 will be understated. You are right about this being the centerpiece of any collection, and I commend Lukgraph (loyal customer for a while).
-
Ooohhh.......now that is a very nice way to present a kit. I must say Lukgraph has improved by leaps and bounds over the years, every new release is noticably better than the last. Having recently recieved their Brandenburg C1, the quality is fantastic. NO print lines on my copy. Am building the Lohner seaplane atm and the fit and finish of the parts is spot on. (Am using Przmol's awesome build log for that along with the Datafile book. ) Regards, Pete in RI
-
Hi all,
Alex over at 'Proper Plane' in Ukraine is preparing a propeller set for this model,
Mike
-
I would be very interested in a "stand-alone" kit of the engine :D
With the reputation of Lukegraph that would be gem!
Willem
-
Thanks Mike, will be ordering a set of those.
-
LukGraph
Eckart K?hne the price for this set will be 499 EUR + shipping costs.
There will be only a Premium version with a huge amount of bonuses inside
-
...I just don't have the space to assemble or store the thing.....
Me neither, but I want one anyway!
Willem
With pain in my heart I must revisit my earlier statement. 500 euros is just a bit too pricy for me... :-\
-
Hi all,
Pre-orders for the Caproni Ca3 up next week,

Hi all,
Latest from Lukgraph,
Mike
In addition to printing this giant, you also need to find time to make assembly instructions - that's also a lot of work.
In this model, we focus on durability.
The wings are triple reinforced with 2 mm steel wires (the wires will be included in the set).
All the struts and the landing gear are the same - everywhere reinforced with 0.8 mm steel wire.
Just in case, we will include 2 trestles for the skids on the lower wings in the set.

aw man that is killing me - this is one of my most wanted subjects but the cost. I wish they had a "light" version of the kit minus the figures and big wooden box for cheaper.....
-
Will be pre-ordering after the surgery to sell my extra kidney... ;)
-
I agree with you Patrick although I don't believe this would make a meaningful difference over an EUR 500 price.
BTW I look forward to the 48th version, hopefully with the possibility to give up the figures.

Order is placed. :)

Let us know when the build starts. I hope it will go to the top of the pile!

Will do, and yes it will.

I'll be in the frontrow with my notebook!

Just got the shipping notice from Lukasz, the big Caproni is on it's way ;D

My copy arrived yesterday. You may not have had time to examine all the parts in your kit yet, but unfortunately mine had some damage to the edge of the cockpit nacelle. As the packaging is extremely robust, I can only think that something unlucky happened during packing.
I have mailed Lukasz and asked if he can supply a replacement. It is a little time consuming with a model of this size, but it would be good advice to unpack and check all the parts.
David
-
Good to know. I haven?t checked all the parts yet as daily business is keeping me busy. But the nacelle is one of the few parts I already have inspected and it is fine. That doesn?t mean, of course, that there can?t be other damages somewhere else. So I?ll be back on it as soon as possible?
-
Lukasz is sending me a replacement in the next few days??.another example of the usual high quality customer service from LukGraph!
David
-
Best of luck with this build you guys.....don't leave them on the shelf for too long!
-
It?s a problem for sure Nigel??.my shelf just isn?t big enough!
David
-
Hi all,
I've heard there are no bombs or racks supplied in the kit?
Mike
-
That?s right Mike??..they were never mentioned in the company news. It does seem a strange omission, but I suppose they have to stop somewhere even to keep the cost at ?500. We will have to rely perhaps on the aftermarket guys.
David
-
aero rarities is going to make Italian bombs
-
anyone have any decent pics of a Ca3 loaded up? Like close up? I have googled and reviewed the datafile and there are some pics but very poor quality and small.
-
Maybe that is why Lucacz didn't include any.
-

I found two pictures of a torpedo and its rack under a Ca.3 in my references, but I'm not sure that's what you are looking for.
Will post this weekend.
There is another book: "Gli Aeroplani Caproni - Studi, progetti, realizzazioni dal 1908 al 1935" by Gianni Caproni (the big man himself), but it is costly and I have no idea if there are pictures of the bombracks in there.
Willem
-
Hi all,
This site has many photographs etc of this aircraft.
Some show, not clearly though, bomb racks and bombs.
Could be helpful information,

Hi all, I have been perusing the presnted kit parts.....and.......the more I get into them, the happier and more impressed I am. Crisp, VERY detailed, NO print lines, Metal rods for the wings fit through with no obstructions, NO shipping damage, the wood box was a brainstorm idea! Increadable presentation. and serious shipping protection. This, really, is a most impressive product.
-
I am very much looking forward to seeing one of our forum members build this beast.
I really hope these beautiful kits in wooden boxes are not stored unbuilt as collectors' items or lucrative investments....
