These little gems just arrived in the post yesterday - Copper State Models 1/32 scale Werner Voss and their earlier release of the Wanderer motorcycle. Looking forward to painting them up. And I have a background model to pose it with (built a few years ago).

Oh I'll keep my eye open for that little combo Gary (Nice Dr1 as well by the way)
Look forward to seeing them with some paint on

Neat! IIRC the bike was a gift from his parents. Really looking forward to seeing how they come out.

Beautiful!
I wonder why not [also] in 1/32?

Looking forward to this one. The CSM motorbikes are incredible. I have no idea how people manage to paint all the tiny details when they are all printed in situ. Please post some in progress photos Gary so we can see how you do it.....

My mistake, Gene - this particular release IS in 1/32 scale and I've modified my post. I do believe that CSM also offer it in 1/35. Yet another "senior moment" in my days ::)

Ha! I'm wondering right now how I'm going to do it, Nigel. Studying the photos from museums to see just what colour all the bits are...and debating whether to remove the headlamp (which wasn't on the photos of Voss's motocycle). I wish I could make out his plate no. :-\

There was a short guide on how one could tackle painting these that was posted from memory on the CSM Facebook page - I think it was for the British bike… might be helpful.

A Good buy, Gary.
I already have both at home too.
Unfortunately, I have no talent for painting figures. I'm still looking for someone ... .
But one other thing: note that there are some (small) differences between the model and the original Voss motorcycle.
The Voss bike is missing the horn on the right handlebar, the lamp, the front support for the wheel, the heat shield on the engine and the sheet metal bag at the rear.
The model is incredibly intricate, I wish you every success in assembling and painting it.

Thanks Matt - I did look but couldn't find it. There was a YouTube video of a fully painted British bike that CSM had sent to Metro Hobbies for review but no guide on the painting. I'm sure I'll figure something out. I usually start by airbrushing everything black, then spray a few touches of colour to certain parts...followed by detailed painting with fine brushes under my 'scope.
Cheers,
Gary

Thanks, as always, for your detailed observations Bertl. I had started to notice some of the differences of the bike in the photos & the model and you completed the list. I was already debating whether to remove the headlamp.
The heat shield is actually correct on my model (see photo above), but strangely absent from the CSM photo you referenced.
Usually I will go to great lengths to pursue historical accuracy in a build. I'm definitely a rivet-counter 8). Because this model is made from the very brittle 3D printed resin, it poses a real challenge to modify the parts. Recent experience working with the 3D resin has me inclined at this point is to just paint it up as it is before I break it. Removing some of the microscopic supports on the frame was challenging enough just now.
I always find that a certain amount of compromise is required to finish any project. This one will be no exception ;)
Cheers,
Gary

It’s a while back -21 August 2023. TBH I’m not sure how much of a guide/help it is - but it does involve a fair bit of masking!

I finished my figure of Voss & Wanderer motorcycle and here are a few photos. Not an exact replica of the one he was photographed by in 1917 (as discussed earlier) but as I'd eluded to, nothing gets finished without a bit of compromise 8)
The motorcyclce was airbrushed black, then I sprayed on the base colour of XF-81. The rest of the painting ended up being done with Vallejo acrylics and a very fine tipped paintbrush. Although Alclad II paints are meant to be airbrushed, their Polished Brass was brushed onto some of the small details after taking a few drops and placing them in a bottle-cap. I also highlighted some of the metallic areas with a dry-brushing of silver enamel that had been toned down with a touch of black/raw umber oil paint. It all got a weathering of a greyish-dirt coloured mix of Tamiya acrylics from the airbrush. My Voss figure was done with Vallejo acrylics.
The triplane was built many years ago and I was surprised when I pulled it out of the display case as to how I'd done it very differently than I would these days...suffice to say I'm glad it's just a backdrop, a bit blurred in the background.
Cheers,
Gary

Wow! That is just sheer artistry, Gary: congratulations.
The figure is so real: I'd be scared this little 1/32 guy was going to start talking to me! and the bike tangibly real too.
Gobsmacked.

Oh my word Gary, wonderful build, dio and paintjob. Again!
If your last photograph would be in black and white, it could be easily mistaken for the real thing.
You keep amazing me with your figure painting, especisally the facial expression.
Unbelievable!!!!

Not sure how I missed this. Incredible!

Thanks to everyone who commented - much appreciated.
I see CSM now have a “corrected” motorcycle to match the one in the photos of Voss...available with a figure in 1/24 scale.

I saw that today on FB. Now if only I could get another $50.00 Meng Kit and the parts for the F1 from Aviattic ::)
