Just found this board, seems I'm not alone in this quest.
These are present day builds of the olde Aurora, SMER, Merit kits I had built as a child and had hanging and spinning from my bedroom ceiling as a kid.
Only surviving built kit from my childhood, Aurora triplane.

You were a lucky duck, Allan; up here in the Berkshires our local W.T. Grant store never got the Aurora Triplane, S.E.5, or Camel (or many of the others), but I built a dozen Bébés, Albatrai, and that D.VII with the lurid boxtop. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane!

Thank you both.
Dave, I tried to respond to your PM but the messaging aspect of this forum is not functioning at the moment. Brad and Zack are on it but will take some time to get up and running again.
Yes, I know Storm well, we are good racing buddies. I live 20 minutes south of Lime Rock in Warren Ct, he lives 20 minutes north.
What are the hobby shops you visit ? I can't find anything around and have been having to order Vallejo paints from amazon.....

Definitely silk purses out of sow's ears.......!

I agree with Nigel although I never had sight of any of the Aurora kits as they were never stocked in my LMS in the UK.

Great thread and some awesome builds!
The older I get the more nostalgic I become to those older kits I built as a kid / teenager. I now have firmly established my own "nostalgia stash" which seems to keep growing (now there's an idea for another thread...). No idea how I built so many kits back in those days! Nowadays I am luck to get 2-3 builds done per year :)
In any case, I also have completed some 'nostalgia builds'... not many, but here's a couple:

And a WW2 build for good measure :)

Anyone else partake in a little nostalgic fun every now and then?
Cheers,

Gorgeous stuff, Brad, love the "boxtop" shot especially! My sons Curt and Connor and I built the Airfix MvR Albatros when they were about 8 and 12. Still have the bits somewhere, and I've actually been thinking of restoring some of our old models... sort of a "pre-built" stash.
It's interesting that your old Monogram Bf-109 could sit beside a newer Eduard version and not lose a whole lot in comparison. A testament to the quality of the forty-five year-old kit, or the superlative skills that got applied to it? Maybe a little of both :D

Lovely to see some old stuff that brings back the memories of looooong ago......
Brad, those Airfix builds are very nice and a really clever way to display them.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!. All great builds gentlemen.

To add to my nostalgia list started above, first is the K&B issue of the Aurora E.V/D.VIII.

And next up is the Aurora Albatros D.V. This a re-pop of their D.III with a new rudder.

Both of these along with my previouse build of the Glencoe issue Aurora Pfaltz D.III were done for the Dave Wilson Group Build.

A lot of amazing builds of kits my brother and I worked on as kids (with different results). I sent a link to the D.VII to my brother and we both had a good laugh as we immediately got the Bruno Stachel/Jack D Hunter reference. Great stuff.
-
I really like this series Allan! Have you any others up your sleeve?
-
Love it.
And Zac, I've seen Allan's stash. I'm pretty sure there's more to come :-D

Hope you do a DH10, Allan. I've built and seen plenty Aurora Gothas but I've never seen the DH10 built. I had four in the stash at one stage but sold them without glue ever approaching plastic. Think I built every other Aurora WWI 1/48 type but somehow this one escaped!
