In development -- Complete Mercedes D.IIIa in multiple scales to support WNW, Roden, Eduard & Model Airways. 1/32 & 1/16 scales feature major internal parts including pistons, crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft etc.
The following are all 1/32, in development...

Wow, this looks amazing. Incredible how scale modelling limits keep being pushed. Brilliant!

Wow, that does indeed look amazing.

This is a dry, press-fit only -- hence some misalignment of the cylinders. Also, the crankcase upper and lower halves in these photos are preproduction, and are missing some important details already corrected and added.

1/16 version is following close behind. 1/48 version also in the works.

I hope you've got the correct thread on those engine block bolts, otherwise it would ruin it for me. 😅

Wow. Incredible work.

Development prototype of the all new tool Mercedes D.IIIa in 1/16 scale next to the 1/32 scale variant (also in development). Like it's smaller sibling, the 1/16 version will have extensive internal parts.

And here is the 1/16 variant next to the offerings from Model Airways (Albatros DVa), which it is primarily intended to replace...

Where we are currently at, 1/32 & 1/16 (actually there is more, but...)

This is incredible. Amazing stuff.

Expected completion ? Price Point for each scale ??

Hi Ed!
I'm hoping the first (early?) variant will be ready in October for 1/32 & 1/16. No timeline yet for 1/48. I haven't figured out the price points yet, as I haven't "productionized" a lot of the parts so it's still unclear how much machine time, material and my post time is involved for each kit. Also I'm looking into packaging & instruction options. The internal bits will be optional, as I assume many people won't care about them.
I will be doing the later style crankcase (with generator drive and flange) as a follow on.

I occasionally get inquiries about really large scale bits. I've had an opportunity this summer to experiment with 1/5 scale versions of my Mercedes D.IIIa bits. Here is a crack at the upper crankcase half:

Meanwhile work continues on the "regular" scale Mercedes bits...

It seems this sub-board is set to self-destruct imminently, so -- until then -- it's been nice knowing you!

Exploding view of the Mercedes D.IIIa in its current state. (A much better, clearer and longer video is on my Patreon (https://patreon.com/bomonroe) and will be unlocked for the general public in a few days.)

Thanks for looking :)

Wonderful stuff! Any timeframes for 1/48? My new favourite scale 😀 and I’ve just been looking at the Mirage Halberstadt CI cii….
Cheers Matt

1/48 will follow right on the heels of 1/32 & 1/16. Obviously it will be simplified somewhat. My plan was to scale it to the Eduard Albatros D.V...
-
Great… the D.V makes sense (and is on my list as well) and hopefully it can be shimmied into other kits… I think the Eduard kit is missing a radiator altogether…could you re-scale your one? Just a thought.
Cheers

If we are still talking about the D.V -- it would have to be redesigned to work in 1/48th scale but I think it could be done. There's an awful lot of stuff in the Eduard D.V that could use attention as well. The Flugmotor will be a bit of a trial balloon -- if interest is strong, I might work up other stuff for it. I've already promised Brad a spinner.

The 1/32 Mercedes D.IIIa Early kit (http://"https://www.aircraftinpixels.com/shop/p/132-daimler-mercedes-diiia-early") has been released in a limited edition of 50 boxings, of which less than half remain at this writing.

Each of the 23 rafts of parts that make up the kit are available on an individual basis as well and will be indefinitely. Most are found here (http://"https://www.aircraftinpixels.com/shop/p/132-mercedes-diiia-spares"), while the crankcase (http://"https://www.aircraftinpixels.com/shop/p/132-daimler-mercedes-diiia-crankcase"), cylinder set (http://"https://www.aircraftinpixels.com/shop/p/132-daimler-mercedes-diiia-cylinders") and Bosch ZH6 magneto set (http://"https://www.aircraftinpixels.com/shop/p/132-german-magneto-set") each have their own product page.
The parts guide and assembly manual are free PDF downloads.

I have to say this is truly amazing. Incredible design and craftsmanship plus well thought out packaging and assembly instructions.

Any news on when the 1:16 version will be ready? I have the Model Expos Albatross kit and the castings are very bad.

Hard to say. I am working on it. Many of the 1/32 parts are sufficiently detailed that a straight scale-up is possible with minimal modifications. That said, I have a list of parts that will require special attention after upscaling -- in particular the wiring harnesses, valve springs and rocker arms. There are also a few bits planned that are impractical in 1/32 but possible in 1/16. My hope is to have these ready by late summer. These will undoubtably be in a much smaller edition than the 1/32 kits as the demand is pretty light (but non-zero).

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I hope it is sooner.
