Hello all,
Time is precious for me at the moment, but I will finish this kit if it's the last thing I do.
I'm In the early stages of dry fitting and the cursed modellers dilemma of which path I take. The out of the box job or the bells and whistles. Either option will honour our fallen friend.
This won't be a Hollywood build, but it will be a build with meaning and care. Care for our mate, Dave, may he rest in peace.
Cheers chaps.

Another interesting build, I recently acquired one of these for a very good price so keen to see how you approach this.
-
The sum of parts coming together.
-
Looking good! A very different approach to mine. I tend to paint every part and detail before assembly, which also tends to drive me crazy... It'll be interesting to follow your build.

-
Like Fredrik, this is a very different approach to me. I'm intrigued to see how this comes together. Thanks for sharing the in progress pics.
-
Thanks chaps!
I'm enjoying the process. Only the top of the engine will be seen, so I'm not stressing over details. I will do some work in the cockpit area and this process will be the normal paint it and stick it method. Having fun with this.
Cheers,
Bob
:)

Excellent start von B! It is nice to see you working on plastic again!
RAGIII
-
Engine taking shape.
Most will not be seen, but I know it's there.
I have enjoyed painting this as a complete item. Sure, it's fiddly, but I'm up for the fiddle!
Cheers,
Busy Bob :o

Lovely. Great to see you working on a model again, Bob!
-
Great stuff, Bob.
Glad to see you mid-model again.
I like the approach. Probably how we all started as kids, but with age we started to detail smaller and smaller assemblies - and now, I for one, take far too long to get back to a complete engine, for example. On the way spending an inordinate amount of time on things that will never be seen again. (My absolute pet hate.)
Think I'll give your approach a go, next time.
Sandy
-
I'm with Sandy, I may well try this approach on my next engine as well. Beautiful work so far!
Dutch

Nice to see you back at the bench "von Builder", and better still to open a log and see the von Buckle logo "rampant" on the photos!!
Cheers,
Lance

Excellent progress von Fiddly Buckles ;D Your engine looks Great.

That's looking very nice indeed, I really like the interior. Lovely work!
-
Great work on the interior and engine! Looks spot on for use and weathering. ;D
-
Really nice progress! I meant to ask earlier - is that a home grown jig in your opening picture? Very sturdy looking.

Not home grown, Steve. I bought it online. On reflection I wish I had gone for one made out of acrylic, but hay ho!
Thanks for the comments, chaps!
Cheers,
Bob

Really looking Terrific Von B!

Bravo Bob! I do like the look of the monoplane Junkers and this is shaping up to be a fine example of the breed. Bravo!
-
The Camo is down! Single colour to be splashed over the fuselage real sooooooon.
Cheers,
Bob

Very nice. You are really close to finishing it.

Thanks Prze!
Nearly, in my dictionary, means 'Last minute race to the post'

That's looking very nice indeed, the camo looks great.
-
Very nice work on the camo! ;D
-
Sorry chaps!
Here is how I applied the camo. I cut some homebrew masks from the Ronny Bar Wingnut profile.
Bingo!
:) ;) :)

Excellent work! The masking material must be "just" clingy enough! Masking sets seem to be one of the newish big things on the market....juss sayin...... ;)
Steve
-
The Camo is Lovely von B! Clever use of the profile and masks from your plotter!
RAGIII
-
Thanks guys!
Onwards...
:) ;)
-
Sweet....
-
Well, this turned out better than I thought it would.
Masking over a corrugated surface is possible! Who knew? lol
A little squidge of over spray, but nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things ;)
Cheers all!

Looks great! I actually think the little bit of overspray add authenticity. I doubt it would have been perfect up close on the real plane ;D
-
I think you're right!
Overspray will remain. ;)
Cheers,
Bob
-
Your Masks worked great! The crosses are awesome!
RAGIII
-
Thank you Rick!
;)
-
Excellent, BB! Looks great even on those corrugations.
Dan
-
Madness! Masking corrugated surfaces..... But it's worked really well. Good progress here.
-
Thanks guys!
Much appreciated ;)

Thought I'd put these lovely Artscale spoked wheels on the old metal wonder.
I had to fettle with the axel to make the wheels fit, but fit they do!
Red and white band masked and sprayed. Remask in progress!

Bob

Nice wheels!

Hi Rick,
That overspray will be gone when I spray the fuselage! ;)
BB
-
Sophisticated work on your model.... but also, that's the most sophisticated jig I've ever seen!
-
Nice progress!
Steve
-
I like the look of some paint creeping inte the grooves of the corrugated steel, mainly because I think it looks correct... the same way it would have looked back then. It'll be interesting to see how it looks after you've painted the main colour.
/Fredrik
-
Lovely work Bob, she's looking terrific! I'm another fan of the overspray.
-
Hello all,
Just to bring you guys uptodate.
I'm 80% there with the Junkers and by hook or crook she will be done before the end of October.
All the markings were sprayed on using my homebrew masks. Paints are from the Mr Color and Tamiya range of paints. Thinned with body shop lacquer thinners.
A weeeee splosh of weathering to add plus the undercarriage and rudder needs bolting on.
Dot the i and cross the t and soon I'll be done.
Cheers!

Looking Stunning von B! Terrific work with the Masks!
RAGIII

Great work!! Your masked markings are perfect!

What a color combination! Your Junkers D.1 looks marvelous, Bob. It seems particularly appropriate for this memorial GB since I'm quite certain that the Junkers D.1 was last WNW project that Dave completed prior to going into hospice care.
-
Thanks for the kind words, guys!
Much appreciated. ;)
BB
-
Very nice work, that camo looks great. Keep going!
-
Great job on that airbrushing. Lovely colours.
BTW, I am planning this scheme for my Junk D.I but I think I will go for the red fuselage and black-white band.
-
Looks pretty damn good to me.
Nice one, Bob
Sandy

Looks very nice. I totally agree with everyone else about the masking.

My Tribute to our friend, Dave, is complete.
It has been a pleasure to take part in this memorial build.

Well done Bob, you made an ungainly looking a/c look pretty cool. I have new interest in sprayed on markings.
Dave would be proud and pleased.
I think I "need" one in 1/48 scale.
-
Lovely work all round on the Junkers Bob, she looks really good. And the base is a very touching tribute, what a great touch.
-
Very very nice, Bob. Great job on the model.
But I wonder, the base is touching but it brings to me the New Zealand silver fern and "All Blacks" symbolics. Was it your intention or is it just me?
-
Beautiful model, base, and a very fitting tribute Bob. A pleasure to follow and wonderful to see the talents of the von Buckle Bench up in the high Lights once again!
Cheers,
Lance
-
A very fitting tribute to Dave and a superbly finished aircraft.

Hello Prze,
Thanks for your comments.
The silver fern is solely there out of respect of Dave's nationality.
Cheers,
Bob

HAHA !!! Book marks ! What a marvelous idea !!
-
I agree, that actually is a very good idea. I will try that myself but I think I will paint the bookmarker with varnish to prolong it's life.
Alan.
-
Excellent!
Bookmarks R US!
:) :)
-
What a beautiful build Bob, bravo!! And those bookmarks are an inspired idea!
I must admit I teared up when I saw the base. What a touching tribute.

Beautifully done sir.
Gorgeous model and I'm sure Dave's family will appreciate the time, effort and presentation.

I bet several hundred listees have noted your bookmark breakthrough already.
