I'll join the pack with another of Dave's favorites, we cannot have too many of these for this occasion! I'll be adding HGW fabric belts, a GasPatch Lewis gun, a mix of Eduard and the Kit PE details and Pheon Models Decal Set 32003 for this unique scheme as shown below.

Here's the standard box cover art illustration and contents. I've been saving this Kit for years and it will join my previous one's, McCudden's B4891 with the enlarged cockpit fairing and big LVG spinner and Rhys David's B525 when completed.

I've got an off topic Build to complete over the next month or so and then the Build Log will commence here. This one's for you Dave!
Cheers All,
Lance

Awesome choice Lance. If I could afford another WNW SE I would do one in addition to the DR1.

Can't wait to see what you do with this kit, Lance. I've always wanted to try doing one of the night-fighter schemes, my son Curt and I were just talking about them last night...
All best,
Dutch

Yer, I just know this will be a good one.
-
Great choice, Lance. Like Dave, the SE5/5a is my favourite aeroplane of all time - you really cannot have too many.
I've also got the Pheon decal set and one remaining unmade WNW SE, but I've been holding off introducing them to each other - coz once it's done, it's done!
I applaud you taking the plunge and will follow with with great interest.
Sandy

Excellent choice, Dave Hooper has built this one in this scheme and it looks fantastic when done.

Sandy,
My thoughts as well; having both a Camel and an Se.5a saved in the Stash to be done as HD Night Fighter versions is great but, as you say, once done they are indeed done! In the former case I hope to convert the Kit to a "Comic" configuration but have considered using one of the Hobby Craft ones from the reserve shelf to preserve a Kit that will not likely ever be replaced. For this Memorial Build, however, I can think of no better an occasion to use this treasured Kit!
Cheers,
Lance

What a great choice of model :)
Will definitely be following along with excitement!

Great choice Lance, love the chequer scheme too!

Sorry to be a bit late Lance, but I do like your choice of aeroplane and markings. This is going to be a worthy tribute to Dave.
Stephen.

I'm an even later latecomer! An excellent project I'm excited to follow.
-
Many Thanks for the encouragement Gents, I hope to start on this one soon.
Cheers,

Well, as you see here (check the dates!) better sooner then even later! I completed my Off Topic model, another RCAF Spitfire for my Canadian Fighters shelf a few days back, have cleaned up the model desk and can now get started on this project. I am much looking forward to a return to the world of wood, linen, and wire with this Build, hopefully my Optivisor is still in fine tune!
More to follow real soon.
Cheers,
Lance

Great choice Lance, I'm pretty sure it was Dave's favourite plane, mine too. I'll watch with interest.
Sandy

Yes, Dave's favorite aircraft and she's right up there on my list as well. It was nice to see the model on display at his Memorial which like most here I watched on line ....... what a great touch.
Cheers,
Lance

Looking forward to this one as always Lance. I know you will do a Fantastic Job on Daves favorite!

Here's the first update on this Build and a few workbench photos of progress to date. the cockpit has been completed and the fuselage is ready for the close up step. All's gone very smoothly to this point, a few minor glitches along the way were quickly remedied, the only casualties being half a dozen broken drill bits while prepping the wings and control surfaces for rigging eyelets. That's about average for me per Build these days, the price of aging and that great companion, the dreaded "MR. R THRYTUS"!!
The control cables were installed using Maxima Chameleon 0.12 mm mono fishing line painted with Mr. Metal Color Stainless. Those rudder pedals will be touched up before the details are closed up.

The instrument panel was done with a Tamiya Acrylic mix of wood base and grain effect with artist's oils. The instrument faces were given a "glass effect" with several coats of Alclad II "Aqua Gloss Clear".

Frame side bracing was done with stretched sprue and the seat belts are HGW's Fabric versions.

Finally here's the fuselage assembly from a slightly different angle. A very nice fit per Wingnut's usual standards with minimal clean up of errant paint and minor adjustments.
Difficult to see are the internal frame additions on the interior on the last photo.

More to follow as she approaches the initial paint stage. I'll post another photo in a few days when the fuselage top panels and cowling is attached.

Very nice work indeed Lance. I really like the instrument panel, that looks very realistic. Following this one with interest as I still have this one in the stash, it's the first WNW kit I ever bought all those years ago......
-
Great job! It inspires me to push on with my slightly smaller Eduard kit.

Gorgeous interior work Lance. I especially like the IP!

Nigel, FAf, and Rick,
Thanks for your comments, they mean a lot and I appreciate your encouragement! This is my third Build of this Kit, it's obviously one of my favorite subjects and despite it's (minor) discrepancies in the instructions and assembly sequence a great release by the company that I believe put WWI Aircraft back in the spotlight of our hobby. I'm looking forward to getting some paint into the plan and admit to some trepidation concerning those Pheon decals which look like a bit of a challenge! "Onwards and upwards" as they say .........
Cheers,
Lance
-
Super update Lance. The extra details are first class, as is the IP. What are a few drill bits among modelling friends?
Stephen.
-
Thanks Stephen, that's why I purchase them in bulk! :)
Cheers,
Lance

Lovely innards!
Progressing nicely, Lance.

Very timely update for me, Lance, as I'm just getting started on the interior of mine- your approach to getting the various cables and static wires installed with just the right fuselage half attached appears to be a really good idea. Your cockpit looks great!
-
Great looking interior. And do not worry qbout the broken drillbits, we all lose them, at least me - certainly.
-
Good job on the interior, I always find it a small milestone when the fuselage halves go together.
Alan.
