This one is done. It's the Roden kit with the Aviattic decal set for A1083 of 45 Squadron (which basically covers the whole plane), plus the nice upgrade parts from Aviattic:

There are a number of things that I'm not completely happy with, due to rushing it in places, but overall the scheme looks good. And I've taken the photos carefully to hide any booboos....... ;)

The Aviattic upgrades include some wonderful GasPatch 3D printed guns. The quality is exquisite:

I also really like the way Aviattic have done the decals to show subtle but clearly visible rib tapes, especially on the underside:

I just applied a little bit of weathering using oil paints to modulate the wing in places, but these decals really represent the rib tapes without the need for "zebra stripe" pre and post shading. Which I personally am not a fan of, but of course YMMV ;)

Exquisite! Such a marvelous job you have done with this kit. I love every aspect of it.
All the best,
Tim

Your Strutter is fantastic, Nigel!
As has been pointed out to me many times, we all see our flaws in a model. Looking at yours it looks perfect to my eyes.
Regards
Dave

Gorgeous Strutter Nigel! The decals and your subtle weathering are perfect!

Dave has written it: we all see the flaws in our own models but as he has written, I cannot see any in yours!
I always wanted one of these (in God'sOwn Scale of course), in my earlier modelling incarnation, but now I am less concerned. It was an important type though and therefore important to have in a collection.

Your build was beautiful and a joy to follow, Nigel, and the end result looks spot on. Well done!
-
Holy cow, that is gorgeous!
The fabric effect decals look really cool.
-
Cracker, Nigel, prettiest Land Clerget Tractor I've ever seen. My favorite part is the interior (Schrödinger notwithstanding)... but you did a really marvelous job, inside and out. And Dave Hooper deserves a ton of credit for his design work on those decals.

I think it's a beautiful end result Nigel.
The subtle weathering is the cherry on the cake.
Very well done!

Beautiful model, Nigel. Detail work is superb and the overall effect stunning.
Lovely stuff.

Just beautiful!!!!

Thanks for the kind feedback everybody, overall I am pleased with this one. It was quite a lot of work.....

It helps that I pointed the camera away from the areas with some issues..... ;) But you are right. I have to say the flaws look a bit less obvious now I go back to the completed model. Some were very fresh in my mind as I finished the build......

It's just gorgeous!

Oh my Nigel... undoubtedly one of the nicest builds that I have seen. I love your choice of scheme and colours, and your weathering and wood work a top notch. This truly is a magnificent model, and one that you should rightly be proud of.
Well done, sir!
Cheers,
BC

Thanks very much Warren and Brad, glad you like her.
I took her to a show last weekend and she suffered a little damage (nothing serious). So she will be going into a small vignette so that I can fix her firmly to a base which will make transporting her easier. Will post some more photos when it's done.

Nigel,
What a beautiful model. And a good photographer can always turn the model to hid minor imperfections. Very well done.

Great looking result, Nigel. I really like the linen finish and the rest of it is superb.
-
Very, very nice! That is a true piece of art!
-
Thanks for the kind words Dennis, Ken and Borsos, much appreciated.
Ken, your build thread was very helpful for me in completing this one. I referred back to it many times...... :)
-
What a beautiful model! Just the right amount of weathering! The linen effect of the decals really suits the model well :)

An update to this Strutter build. I've put her on a base and added several figures. The pilot, observer and erk in overalls are from Elan 13, while the guy bending over is from CSM. The accessories are mainly from Elan 13, while the tools in the toolbox are from a MiniArt set. There's a bunch of teeny-tiny spanners and tools in there, but of course you can't see them :-[ Schrodinger strikes again!

Now it's on to the Pfalz DIIIa for the group build......

Super bit of work all round Nigel. Very much looking forward to seeing this one

Thanks Paul, your help and encouragement on the figure painting has really helped me. Glad you like it!
-
WOW, that is such A fantastic piece of work there. You should be very proud
-
Didn't think this one could get any better... but this kicks it up into the Exceptionally Exceptional category. Truly beautiful work, Nigel. And you gotta love Schrödinger's Toolbox...

Thanks very much Robert and Dutch, much appreciated.
Dutch, I am honoured to be in the "exceptionally exceptional" category despite Schrodinger stealing all my tools.....
-
Wow those figures and base are superb! Really impressed! The highlights and faces are so well done!
Im about to try my first figure and those things scare me!
-
Thanks Ben. The base was really quite challenging because it's so big. Trying to get enough variation to make it look like more than a load of static grass was harder than I thought it would be.....

Best of luck. A couple of thoughts - Vallejo beige red is a great starting point for a flesh colour. Also, make sure the clothing on the figure is nice and matt. Several paints (like Vallejo) leave a slight sheen which doesn't look realistic. I use AK Interactive Ultra-matte varnish to achieve a nice matt finish.

Really excellent work Nigel, a joy to see.
Alan.

Truly inspirational, got me wanting to do one.

Really nice finish to your model, Nigel. The figures and aircraft are finished to top level. Overall it's an amazing overall scene.
Congrats,
Gary

Thanks very much Gary!

Agree with all the praise… and I’ve painted that CSM figure - do I see actual letters on the shoulders ensigns on yours? Wow! Anyhow the whole thing looks great and I’ll try your tip on the red as a base as well.
Cheers
Matt
-
Thanks Matt! There are a few letters on the shoulder badge, but only the easy ones (like C and L). The rest are lines and blobs that suggest letters. I was a bit intimidated by the size of the badge but I used a 10/0 liner brush, which worked well, and also a buff oil paint for the letters on the matt badge. The oil paint doesn't dry quickly on the brush which definitely helped. I attached a close up picture which shows more of the badge....

That’s a very nice display, really lovely!

Thanks very much! Don't hold back on using the Aviattic decals, they are really effective. Do give them a try.

Thank you Nigel. I’ve just ordered some… Now I’ll have to learn how to use it properly. Regards, Paul

Amazing work on your strutter
