I am pleased to announce that John Vojtech has been in contact with me and would like to inform everyone that the Scalepoke website is now operational and the spoke wheels are now available. Here is a message sent by John;
Welcome - Miniature Model Wheels for the Model Enthusiast
John Vojtech from UMM-USA is offering this new product line as well as access to the ScaleSpokes forum. Capitalizing on a long-time love of WW I aircraft, a way was found to accurately reproduce these wheels in the common hobby scales. These wheels are highly detailed and will play an important roll in enhancing the realism and artistic appeal of your models.
To increase our happiness in the hobby and satisfaction with your build, SCALE SPOKES offers hand-made spoke wheels for aircraft in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scales. Future plans include 1/144 wheels by special order. All these miniature works of art feature resin or aluminum hubs, aluminum rims, copper wire spokes, and rubber tires.
Accessory sets for these wheels offer upgrades such as flattened resin tires, photo-etched stem valves, and manufacturer’s name decals for the tires. These beautiful wheels are finished products by themselves, but you can still bring them even closer to reality with further artistic techniques such as chemical treatments.
We anticipate fellow modelers will offer these techniques through the ScaleSpokes forum. The goal is to provide a unique product to enhance your models and raise them to a higher level of realism. UMM-USA is very proud to offer you these hand-made works of art. Start building with them and enjoy the elegance of this beautifully artistic hobby.
Thank you for visiting our website and we wish you Happy Building.

Neat stuff:
I am curious; are the wheels pre laced or is the modeler required to lace the wheels? That would be a task.

You get a spool of thread and a ring cut out of a soda-pop can. The rest is up to you.
<joke>
I am pretty certain your $25 gets you a set of built wheels ;-)

I should certainly hope so. 8) I remember as a kid, after seeing Disney's concept of a Space station, and then Stombecker releasing a model of one. After excitedly getting one, I was so disappointed when I saw the "Spool" of thread. Haply my dad had the patience to rig it for me. Sadly, my brother destroyed it a few days later. Trying to lace one of these would be a challenge. They are pretty cool looking though, would look neat on an Eindecker or a Jenny.

Mark, the wheels come as you see them in the photos, apart from painting they are ready to fit to your model. I have not seen these wheels up close but the photos show them as being a very nicely made product, I'll need four of them for my Caudron G3 build.

I purchased a set a couple of weeks ago from umm-usa. They came with two sets of tires (white and black). The packaging was necessarily good as these are pretty delicate.
I plan to put them on a Roden Dr1 which I'm still waiting on. At that time the Dr1 was the only type they had. I would be curious to see the different types side by side for comparison purposes. I assume they are different in some way.

Hi Todd - the photos that John sent me and are posted here include the following wheels
Fokker E.III
Spad XIII
Fokker Dr.1
John is in the process of expanding his range but the three types available would suit many aircraft types.

Hello Des:
Thanks for the update. I think I will have to get a set for the EIII when I start on that kit. They do look neat and will certainly enhance the kit.
Best

I just sort of rediscovered these on the UMM website. Has anyone picked up a set that they'd like to give a mini-review on? They look pretty good, and a more affordable, albeit less detailed, option to Steven Robson's wheels. I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts.

On that note - How were the wheel covers removed from the wheels? Just thinking of a maintenance scene as opposed to a machine that did not have wheel covers at all.

Do you have WIP photos? Maybe Des will let you post a review?

Not yet it is in the list to be done but far down the road.
