Hi all,
Update from Edgar at Copper State Models.
Mike
"Many of you been asking about our 1/32 Hansa Brandenburg D.I project and we want to assure you that it is not cancelled and still in our plans.
Since it is a rather expensive project for us we decided to release several smaller models like Caudron G.III, Bristol Scout before continue with the HB D.I.
Currently, we are improving the design, checking some fitting options, adding some small details and so on.
So no worries, sooner or later but it will be released, just give us some time."

That is a piece of great news! Especially for those who do not fancy rigging ;)
-
Fantastic news. A must-have.
I love the ammo drum and cartridges in the Schwarzlose "Baby Coffin"!
Sandy
-
Looking forward to this one coming out (and anything else CSM produces) ;D ;D ;D
-
Mjummy!
-
Brilliant news. I’m really looking forward to this one. I’m sure the wait will be worthwhile!
David
-
hopefully also in 1/48.
-
Wonderful choice of subject and it's great to see it's getting closer to production. I'm betting this one will be a huge hit and will prove well worth the wait!
Cheers,
Lance
-
This is great news, please consider expanding more your WW1 airplane line in the foreseable future ;D ;D ;D
-
What a cool a/c! I'm tickled for the large scale folks!
Warren
-
Sure I‘m in for one. Thank you, Edgar!
-
Can't wait, please please please!!!!!!!
-
It’s not one for me but I’m so excited for those who have wanted one! I’m excited to see your builds!
-
Hi all,
Edgar at CSM has said if all goes according to plan, the 'Strutter' is due for release next year (2025),
Mike
-
It will be interesting to compare this with the offering from katmodel???I am sure there will be ?no comparison?
David
-
David,
what do you want to compare?
-
David,
what do you want to compare?
Hi Edgar,
I think he means there will be no comparison between the two.
CSM will be better ;)
Mike
-
Well, sure, I got his point, but still asked if he want to compare those and if yes, what parts they want to check?
I do not mind, really
-
Thank you Edgar and Mike. I think my post was not very clear, because some strange punctuation seemed to get inserted.
Have you both seen a copy of the katmodel kit?
I have not started construction yet, but it looks quite a difficult job to remove the printed parts from the supports. Then you have to build the fuselage by attaching various panels to a core framework. Finally the star struts themselves don?t look strong enough to support the wings.
I suppose I?m saying that I hope the engineering of your kit Edgar will make for a more straightforward build.
Of course to a man of your calibre Mike, there is probably no problem that cannot be solved!
Best wishes to you both,
David
-
Awesome! Finally will be picking up at least one ;D
-
Hi Edgar, not sure if you are still planning to release this kit in 2025 (now that Lukgraph has announced their version). Not knocking Lukgraph, but would prefer a plasttic version from CSM. Regards, Juan
-
Yes, saw it, looks like we need to make the plastic one after all))
-
Thank you Edgar, looking forward to getting at least one. ;D ;D ;D

Oh yes you do....... ;) :)
-

Looking forward to the CSM release, too.

Some fresh news from copper state facebook https://www.facebook.com/copperstatemodels (https://www.facebook.com/copperstatemodels)
"And from our 1/32 aircraft department:
Work is well underway on the long-awaited Hansa-Brandenburg D.I. Thanks to Chloe Plattner and her access to authentic factory drawings, we?re creating the most accurate model of this aircraft possible. It?s been five years since we first announced it, but now we feel the time is right ? and at the Lingen show, we?ll be choosing the markings together with Chloe. Even better ? Chloe is also working on a comprehensive book covering the service history of this fascinating machine!
Thanks for all your support ? more updates coming soon!"
-
I saw this, really looking forward to this one.

You wont find a better specialist on A-H aircraft than her. Great News, I am also as much looking forward to read her book as I am to build the kit.

Me thinks this should be one to get!!

From CSM facebook :
" Hansa-Brandenburg D.I Progress:
Thanks to the support of Chlo? Platner, we've been able to revise the engine cowling geometry and improve the engine detailing. The model will be significantly more accurate than the version we first showed in 2019 ? a major step forward that we?re truly excited about.
We aim to launch the Hansa mould development by the end of this year, with a target price of 80-90 euros. If all goes well, it will be followed by other important Austro-Hungarian fighter aircraft".
-
Yes, correct, we are working on it and improving
-
Well, that's Christmas sorted. And more Austro Hungarian models, that's great news.
-
This is very good news. I'm really looking forward to an Hansa Brandenburg D.I made from "normal" plastic injection molding in CSM quality.
The information that further K.u.K. models may follow is also very welcome.
The Austro-Hungarian niche has been hidden from the rain for long enough, it is time for this tender plant to grow 8)

I really like the idea of AH aircraft getting the attention they deserve, though I would have liked it even more if it were my preferred scale of 1/48. :(
Chuck
-
Great News, indeed.
-
Another wish for a 1/48th scale version.
-
Ditto.. 1/48 would be great! 😊
-
I join the 48 club!
-
Ach, I've just bought the Lukgraph one, assuming we'd get the Hanriot next from CSM. Never mind, the Lukgraph kit looks superbly well rendered - and you get a wee Austrian with it. A really nice touch.

Hi all,
Latest update from Copper State Models:
Mike
Exciting behind-the-scenes update!
Chloe Plattner is currently checking the accuracy of our Austro-Daimler engine for the (still in development and definitely not cancelled!) 1/32 Hansa-Brandenburg D.I.
She is building her own custom 1/24 scale version.
Wait till you see the book, which is currently in development, will be something out of this world!
-
Excellent news. I'm looking forward so much to this one and it sounds like CSM will be doing a fantastic job on it.
-
Hi all,
Still patiently waiting.
Over 6 years now,
Mike

-
It will be worth the wait IMO. I spoke with Edgar about this at WME in Versailles. Chloe Plattner is now involved which is taking the accuracy of this model to new heights. He showed me some of the work they are doing, and it's really impressive. For example, IIRC they found the cowlings are asymmetrical and each side is different. They really are getting this one correct. I'm hoping we will see this next year.........
-
Madre mia!
-
Madre mia!
Sorry Xan we had no time to talk about it at WME, I was so busy that I did not even recognise you at first
-
This all sounds very exciting - but what is the hope of a 1/48 scale version?
-
Hi all,
Edgar's post on the Hanriot HD.1 thread:
Well, this Friday we will open pre-order for Nieuport XI Italian service
And will start preparing Hansa Brandenburg project for mould production
Only after these 2 projects we will do HD.I and a bit later Hydravion.
Mike
-
Hi all,
Still no news on the Star Strutter from CSM.
In the meantime I think it's possible Lukgraph will have profited with their versions of this aircraft,
Mike
-
Thanks a lot for the info, Mike.
It's a shame - really a shame - that progress on this model seems to be moving so slowly.
Many modelers have been waiting a long time for a beautiful, accurate, and detailed plastic kit of the Hansa Brandenburg D.I
Servus
Bertl
-
And I will continue to wait for a properly researched and well-engineered kit. It's not like I don't have enough models to build while I am waiting!! ;D
-
@NigelR
Of course, no one wants a hastily produced kit, and CSM will deliver quality - I'm absolutely convinced of that.
Edgar has proven this with every one of his kits so far.
On the other hand, it?s been several years since the model was announced, and it would fill a niche that shouldn't be underestimated.
Unfortunately, KuK (Austro-Hungarian) models are extremely rare in the plastic kit market.
And yes, that?s true - pretty much all of us have plenty of models in our stash that we'd love to build or could build before the CSM HB D.I comes out. :D

Yes, it seemed this model was on then CSM started releasing their WW1 armoured vehicles, which they are still producing.
One reason at the time for holding back the model was that they needed to sell many vehicles to fund the continuation of the D.I.
But that was some time ago and Lukgraph moving onto 3D printing models, including the D.I, could steel CSM's thunder,
