Hello everyone,
Here is my latest completion, the Eduard 1/48 Albatros D.III, built for the current Eduard WW1 group build over on Facebook.

This kit traces its lineage back to the late 1990s, and still remains an excellent base model for further improvements. I made a few modifications, including correcting / re-scribing the nose panels, adding details to the kit engine and interior, adding a scratch built fuel tank, replacing the kit gun barrels and muzzles with MASTER metal items, adding nails to the fuselage, adding the aileron control arms to the upper wing, and replacing the undersized kit wheels, amongst other minor additions from various Eduard etched sets for the base kit. Rigging was done with elastic and utilising “Bob’s Buckles” metal turnbuckles.
I painted the model in the markings of Ltn Gustav Nernst, Jasta 30, April 1917.

All markings were sprayed using home made masks, and the serial number was also a home made decal. Paints were all SMS Acrylic Lacquers (my new favourite paint), with the fuselage plywood effect and propeller done with oil paints. Weathering was kept relatively light, given the somewhat short service life of these aircraft.

Superbly done, Brad. And on a nice display base too.

Was just admiring your Roden Voss D.III the other night, and this one is every bit as gorgeous (albeit one scale smaller). I still think the Albatros breed is my favorite among the Great War types, which probably comes in equal parts from my first modeling memories—my brother helping me build the Aurora D.III/V hybrid—and the sheer elegance of these machines.
Good luck on the Eduard FB page, Hals und Beinbruch!

Many thanks Kevin, Paul, Nigel, Sandy and Dutch!
Thanks also for your best wishes Dutch - as long as I don't break a wing strut I'll be happy with simply having finished something as part of the group build!
Cheers again!

Lovely work Brad, one of my favorites. Great detailing and the wood & nails finish on the fuselage really stands out. Congratulations, another winner from your prolific bench!

A true piece of modelling art. These photos I could watch them for hours, the wood imitation is the class of its own. Woooooow!

Absolutely stunning work (and detailing) on your Albatros, Brad -
I really envy your modelling skills as I wish I had them myself!

Ah! Over on the build I was asking if you would make the deadline. Obviously you have! Great results and love the ground work. I'm more of a satin finish base fan but that is strictly personal. Awesome model!

Thanks Steve!
So, I had to do this one... alas I didn't have a pilot figure with the same kit as Nernst in the photo, so this one will have to do as a stand in. There are many ways to look dashing for the ladies ;)
