 This is my 1853 glider paper model from Fiddlers Green (http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models/aircraft/Cayley-FlyingMachine.html),  scaled to 1/100.
   
 The masts are 1 mm steel wire secured with white glue, after overnight drying it proved to be stronger than expected.
   


This thread had to be repaired because the hoster went down out of control, more pictures further down.

I admire greatly anyone who can make a model from paper - that is a mini-masterpiece.

The very early attempts at flight, powered and unpowered, resulted in some very interesting machines and that one is no exception. Cayley was a very interesting and inventive individual.

What a lovely replica! Beautiful work.

What was it the coachman-pilot was said to have told Sir George upon handing in his notice? "I was hired to drive, sir, not fly!"

I remember seeing this contraption in a number of books when I was a kid, but I never knew anyone had ever produced a model of it...

That's a great little thing. Reminds me of a Romanian inventor who came up with bizarre stuff like this (I can't remember his name)

A truly vintage aircraft. It makes one marvel at the ingenuity and courage of aviation pioneers from the era before engines were used.
P.S. For small-area paper bonding like this, maybe you could try UHU alcohol-based glue. It's clear, non-wicking, sets much faster and and offers greater strength than white glue. Although it tends to string, diluting it slightly with alcohol will reduce that problem considerably.

Alan: Had the idea to make a Vlaicu model when I first saw it in WW1 Aero.  :)  Too many plans, too little time.  :-[

Bai: These are the glues I use, is it the UHU you told about?
