The time has come for something small and simple. A lovely resin kit from MK Model of Polish interwar sport airplane constructed by then very famous company RWD.
I have done the majority of preparations of the parts during my holidays and now they are finished with all the bits ready for airbrush.

Interesting looking aircraft! I had never heard of it until now. I am sure you will do it justice...
-
Interesting is the word I was about to use, too! I'm keen to see your next update Prze.
-
Well that's an interesting design - the two pilots are separated by a solid bulkhead and not much emphasis is placed on being able to see forward.
I'm sure this will be a little jewel when you are done with it.

RWD aircraft are known mostly for the records in 1930s. The modified RWD5 was used for the first transatlantic flight of a light airplane up to 450kg in 1933 (Skarżyński), RWD6 and RWD9 were the winners of Challenge in 1932 (Żwirko, Wigura) and 1934 (Bajan, Pokrzywka). RWD4 was actually the last one with that weird layout neglecting the front sight. And it marked the Polish debut in Challenge in 1930 ranking 32nd. Quite a history of Polish input into international aviation history.
Anyway, continuing with this lovely kit, the innards are painted, now just the seat belts need to be attached and it will be ready for closing.

The seat belts fastened, seats mounted, throttle linkage added, last glimpse and the fuselage buttoned up with seams filled with liquid CA glue. That is it for a day.

Interesting aircraft, and you're doing your usual immacultate work on it. Are you going to paint it like the a/c shown on the box? It's a very attractive scheme...

Yes, I am going to build exactly that example, SP-ADM, the one which ranked 32nd in Challenge of 1930. That P2 marking on the nose was the starting number.
-
Some tedious work apparently finished. The fuselage seams filled. Also the model had a surprising feature of recessed panel lines along all the ribs on the linen covered surfaces, not the best way of showing those imho - so I duly filled them and it seems that after a couple of filling/sanding sessions the result is acceptable for airbrushing. And two nasty air bubbles in the wheels are also successfully removed.

What a gorgeous little bird! It must be a great feeling to have brought it back to life through this model. I knew about RWD but never appreciated how many different types of aircraft they made until I looked them up online after you started this thread.

Thank you, Davos.
Yes, RWD was a very productive team. Models 5, 6, 8 and 9 are of course the most famous ones but not the only ones. I have built 8 some time ago (it is presented here in this forum too) and encouraged by fine quality of this kit I have ordered 1 and 2, too and will be building them soon. But now, back to something WW1ish. :)
-
And my brace of RWDs landed safely in the cabinet. I hope for more to come.

Great work Przemek, love your RWD-4. Congratulations!
My is waiting in Q, have build years ago the Lüddemann kit, but this one from Marcin is a great thing.
-
Thanks, Jurek. Actually it was your inspiration!I do not know the Luedemann kit but this one is lovely, give it a try.

Prze, I'm curious about the scallop-shell emblem on the fuselage, I notice it's pointing up on one side, and down on the other. Shell gasoline? or a symbol of something else entirely...?
Dutch

Great!

Thank you...

:-[ OMG... It is indeed Shell logo. And it is my mistake, it should be pointing down on both sides. How did I not notice it???
-
Very nice work, Przemol. Up to your usual standards. The upside down marking can be painted over at least.

Thanksa lot!
And I have already ordered the replacement decal - it will be corrected, I would not survive with this blunder! ;)
-
Never mind the blunder Prez - that can be corrected fairly easily I am sure. A beautiful model of a type that is completely new to me.
Stephen.
-
Prze, knowing how meticulous your work is, it never occurred to me that one emblem just went on upside-down! I simply assumed that was the way they were painted on the real aircraft.
I usually have at least two of those "oops!" moments on any given model :-/
Dutch
-
Bravo Prze, another gem! Well done.

Thank you!

If it was a beautiful job before, it's even more so now. A small gem of a build!
